1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Dealer refuses to work on my Tundra, 2nd followup", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I posted before about my 05 Tundra DC with the shudder/vibration. I had taken it to another dealer that the tech said that he thought it was a tranny problem but would have to get with Toyota on it and the service manager would call the next day. Now, I have never met the service manager before, the tech is the only person I spoke with and the service writer. I get a call from the sm the next day and he left me a message that he would really prefer me to take it back to the dealer I bought it from since I was so far away. I called him back and talked with him and said I would really prefer them to fix it but would give the first dealer another shot at it. Well, as usuall can not duplicate problem. I then called Toyota useless customer service and told them the story and told them I would like for dealer number 2 to try and fix it even thought its a nice ride. Well, I left the 2nd dealer several messages with no return call. Today cs calls me and wants to know what I was going to do, and I told her that I was waiting for the 2nd dealer to call back. She then informed me that she had spoken with the service manager and he refused to work on my truck in case I decided to take legal action and he was scared I was one of those kind that would do it! I then told her that I had just gotten legal advice this week but I had never said anything to the 2nd dealer about it nor was there even a case open at that time. Told her I just wanted my truck fixed, not an earth shaking miracle!! She said she would close the case and that was it! Where the @#@# do you go from here?! I have not been ugly or rude to none of these folks!. I then called dealer number 2 back and asked the sm what I did to him since I had never even met him and he flat told me he would not nor did not want to work on my truck, said he did not want to get involved. I will eat broken glass, drink poodle pizz, crawl threw sh-t before I ever own another Toyota!! This is by far the worst arrogant company I have ever dealt with! BTW, dont know if I can post this or not but the 2nd dealer is in Tifton.
Re: Dealer refuses to work on my Tundra, 2nd followup
wow what happened at the first dealer because it sounds like the service managers were talking to each other, most company's do not want to be involved if law suit is mentioned.
Re: Dealer refuses to work on my Tundra, 2nd followup
What you're going through is really inexcusable. I know you shouldn't have to fix a new vehicle yourself, but I wonder if Toyota 4wd can be driven with the rear driveshaft removed when in 4wd? It seems like you could eliminate all issues with the drive shaft and rear end that way. The bad thing is that the problem isn't predictible. Intermittent problems are always the most difficult ones to diagnose and fix. I know I've said it before, but it seems you get crappy service where there's just one or 2 dealers within many miles of you. I'm not being sarcastic, but I'll bet Ford and Chevy have better customer service in areas like that. One thing you could do is if you ever take a long trip and the problem occurs again, take it into a dealer there and see what they say.
Sorry to ramble, but it's now 121 days since it's last rained here. Maybe my brain is drying up?

You get crappy service even if there are 5 dealers near you. Toyota dealers suck!

Are you trying to work through your primary dealer?

If you have a problem that can not be reproduced, you are between a rock and a hard spot. I would learn to live with it until you can demonstrate it to a dealer. Because until then it is not a problem in their eyes. I have no idea the seriousness of your problem because I didn't read your first post, however, there are always going to be a couple things you don't like about your truck or any vehicle you buy for that matter. With mine it is that the washers only hit the lower part of the windshield and the unexpectedly bad MPG. I wrote an email to Toyota about the washer, no answer yet and I don't think they will. I can't threaten them because they have more lawyers than I do. So what can you do, live with it. Against a car company , it's pretty much a no win situation. About 500 people got killed in rollovers in the old Ford explorers before it got enough attention to warrant legal action. Where would you place your shudder problem as compared to that. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Guys guys guys,
Dealers suck as it is. They don't get paid by the hour. They get paid for fixing a problem. If, they plug in the computer and the computer can't find a thrown code, then there is nothing that they can fix. They only fix what the computer tells them to fix. They do not get paid to stand around and attempt to "think" about what the problem might be. That's not how they get paid. And they can care less about you.
If it aint broke when they plug in the diagnostic tool and the tool shows no thrown codes, then there is nothing to fix as far as they're concerned. They will use this in court too. You will lose the case.
If you want someone to sit down in front of your truck and spend time "thinking" about what can cause the problem, you're going to just have to suck it up and pay for it.
You have no idea how many times I've been through this. This is why I HATE the dealer and never ever go there. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.
The only time they are any good is if your "check engine" light comes on. Then, they can plug in the diagnostic tool and read the code that was thrown and replace the part that is broken.
Other than that, they wont even be able to fill air in your tire correctly. They are stupid, they are monkeys.
Before you waste time at the dealer, think about it, does it seem like the shudder is something that would have broke and thrown a code. If not, they wont fix it as they don't get paid to stand around and think. They only do what the computer tells them to do. If the computer says that everything is fine, then everything is fine.
Good luck fighting that one in court. My suggestion is to pay somebody money to look at it. It could be a low idle reading, however, if it was then it would throw a code and the dealer could fix it. My guess would be first to check the harmonic balancer. That would be the first place that I'd look.
Tom

Lawncare,
Look up a few posts at my last response. Your problem is intermitent? You've GOT to wait til it's completely broken and throws a code so that they can read it and fix it.
And Toyota is not the only dealer here. It's ALL dealers. This is how they get paid. It is corporate policy. They get paid from the manufacture for fixing a problem, not diagnosing one. Therefore, they will not stand around and anylize as they cannot submit a claim to the manufacture for this.

I understand that Tom, Im more upset with the way I have been treated than the truck problem itself. I was really surprised that the 2nd dealer told he he did not want to work on it after me making an appointment and driving 160 miles. They could have saved me the gas and time if they would have told me that up front. I told the service writer when I called that I did not buy from him and he still said they would be glad to look at it. Never had a dealer flat out refuse me before. I could understand it if I had went in with an attitude but I am always polite, maybe thats the problem.
Re: Dealer refuses to work on my Tundra, 2nd followup
Lawncare, I feel bad for you, nothing pisses me off more then when people try and take advantage of you I'm not sure if you have tried contacting Toyota Headquarters or just primarily dealt with the dealer on this but I'd try calling the head honchos on this and relay all this info,i.e. terrible treament at these dealerships . A friend of mine was having an issue with his 2001 dodge ram tranny(GO FIGURE ) and was getting the run around on it from the dealer until he got a hold of someone @ headquarters and got it fixed. I'd also report this to the local better business bureau. Man that sucks , good luck and keep us posted! P.S. When ya call headquarters, make sure you mention several thousand Toyota owners are following your current situation!
