Re: Should I have gotten some touch up paint with my new truck?
depends on the individual dealer, some do, some don't...I got some with my 99 taco, none with the 02 and none with the 04 tundra..........different dealers though.

My dealer was kind enough to give me a tube of touch-up for my white 05' (FOR AN EXTRA $6.95!!). What a f@#$&*$ rip off as you can get the same thing at Wal-Mart or a NAPA dealer for 1/2 the price.

I don't know about NAPA, but I know walmart doesn't have perfect OEM matches... For example, my Timberland Mica. Toyota seems to change the green "tone" every model year. The factory touch up paint I bought from the parts department was definitely worth the $7. Perfect match. They needed a several-digit color-code from my driver's door to order the paint.

Keep in mind my truck is white so it is much easier to match than the metalics. My wife drives a white Acura (actually has a little metal flake in it I think). I use the factory touch up paint and it still isn't an exact match. There are people in this area that go to dealerships that have people who come by and professionally touch up dings and rock chips. They are reasonable (much higher than a tube of touch up) but do a great job. I reported the dealer made me pay for the touch up but it was after the deal was "inked" and if I had asked for it prior to the sale, I'm sure he would have thrown it in as would most dealers. Only an idiot would nix a sale over a $7 accessory, IMO.

Re: Should I have gotten some touch up paint with my new truck?
Any one have any tips on the best way to apply the paint? In the past, I've used these pens in the past, and the big tip usually makes a mess. Is there a better way to apply it?
I try to get the paint just in the chip, but somehow manage to make a small blob.

I have heard that the back side of a paper match stick works well. I have not tried it myself though.

Re: Should I have gotten some touch up paint with my new truck?
I have always been given a free bottle of touch up paint with my '90 4Runner, '99 4Runner, and '06 Tundra DC. In fact my '99 4Runner LTD was 2 tone and they gave me a bottle of each color. It's SOP (standard operating procedure) at my dealer.
Re: Should I have gotten some touch up paint with my new truck?
i had to buy a small bottle of touch up paint from the dealer for our 03 corolla. they were going to have to order it, but the parts guy found some on a shelf he'd ordered for some other guy who never picked it up. before i figured that out though, i had driven around to all the auto parts stores in town (not a very long trip) because the car was already at the detail shop. while i was at autozone, i found out they do carry the phantom grey metallic for the tundra. it's around 5 dollars. another store, o-reilly's, wanted 70 bux to mix up a quart for the 'rolla. i'm sure it would have been better paint and i would have had enough to paint half the car if i'd gone that route! anyway, check the local parts stores. the stuff i got from the dealer that is "supposed" to be an exact match, is a slightly different tint of blue. it's not very noticeable unless you're looking for it and it doesn't bother me anymore like it did when the scratches where open down to the primer.
