Oh man, my new (1400mi) 06 Tundra is no longer perfect
The other day on my way to work on the freeway at about 75mph my truck took a hit next from an unseen object right next to the grill on the passenger side. It put a dent in the lower part of the hood, some gouges in the headlight, and some good size paint scratches above the light. I'm bummed out. I heard it hit (it was loud) and thought I hope that was under the truck from something my wheel kicked up, but no way.
I stopped at a repair shop near my house and the quote was $716 without replacing the light. I don't really want to us my insurance for this.
I should have gotten the hood protector sooner, but after adding the VSE sub and backup camera the household banker (wife) was getting a little uptight. Well now I have justification for getting it.
Oh it was bound to happen (scratch, dent or whetever) but the first one is the worst
OUCH I know how you feel. I had a deer run into the side of my 05 tundra last November and the funny part is, I was on my way to the country to HUNT deer. Up until that time my truck was scratch/dent free, I was really pi$$ed off. Did you catch a stone from another vehicle? From what you describe, I don't know that the plastic bug gaurd/hood protector would have helped much if it did that much damage, they usually break pretty easy too.

OUCH is CORRECT! The repair shop is quoting your $700 for a few dings? How about touch up paint? I would shop around first if you decide to go that route. I have the plastic bug gaurd/hood protector by AVS and as far as I know, it's very useful and protects my front hood especially during lovebug season but It doesn't protect my grille, lights, bumper, window, etc...
Man, I feel your pain.
On my 06 DC 4x4 w/ 2800 miles, I took a foreign object to the windshield at highway speed. Loud POP. We originally thought it was my youngest daughter blowing bubbles with gum in the back seat. My wife noticed it several minutes later. Neither of us could remember any other cars around us when it happened, and we were not near any overpass. No idea what it was.
We both immediately agreed to have the whole windshield replaced, but just the glass was $980 + trim strip + installation. My auto is a $500 deductible, so I went with the $60 'glass repair' from Safelite Auto glass.
You can definitely still see it, but I didn't want to spend $500 out of pocket just now.

Ouch and ouch again. Looks like the body shop is trying to gouge you also. If it were me, I would try some touch-up paint, sand paper and a buffer to fix it before I would let a body shop do it for that price. Once the repair is finished, it should not be very noticable unless you point it out to someone. If that does not work then you can have the body shop repair it. You may also be able to buy a headlight restoration kit and fix the headlight. Just my 2 cents.
I am really sorry about your damge!! That sucks!! I have something called Autobon (sp), it is a clear bra thing, and it also goes on my painted mirrors. If something gets through it, the company will pay for the damage.

My first was in a mall parking lot by some idiot in a red car. They slammed their door into my truck and put a nice dent in my rear passenger door. The body shop did a good job fixing it, but it is still noticeable. They said if they couldn't fix it perfectly, it would be free of charge. It was a free repair! That didn't encompass my out-of-pocket costs though for getting hail damage fixed. Man, I wish I had a garage to park in!
