1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "third brake light", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
My 3rd Brake light is out, I know its not the bulbs I tested them on my friends tundra and they work just fine. So I was wondering could this problem be the cause of a bad fuse?
or is it more serious than that?
There is a heat problem in the CHMSL. Have a look at the chrome plastic reflector and you may find it has warped / burned from the heat. Perhaps there is a heat related problem with the socket which hold the bulb? I would check the fuse first, then use a voltmeter to see if you are getting 12V at the base of the socket.
My third brake light bulb kept burning out. It appeared that it heated through the chrome plastic casing, and some material from above was dripping down into the casing, and onto the bulb.
I used the aluminum-type faced tape. I am not sure if it is aluminum, but it is duct tape type thickness, and has a shiny metal coating. I cut it out to fit on the top underside of the casing, and I have had no more bulbs go out.
