I tried engaging it at every speed, even neutral. Im wondering if it could be from going through to deep of water??

They said they were going to fix it under warranty. They said the reason it happened because it was submerged in water. Toyota of Orange is the ****!!!

How deep of water did you drive through? Good to hear your dealership will replace it for you.

I was driving through water as tall as the headlights after a big storm had dumped alot of rain. But I thought the actuator was sealed up so water cant affect it??? It kinda sucks i have to worry about how deep of puddles i go thorugh after all its a 4wd truck. I think id rather see it where shift it into 4wd manually rather than worrying about all these electrical components seizing up.

Yeah, now you got me worried about driving through any water. I also would prefer manual hubs, but that seems to be a thing of the past with the new trucks today. Nice truck, BTW, what brand are the wheels you have on it?

As far as I know the actuator is sealed BUT there is a vent tube that goes up into the engine compartment that would be almost up to headlight level. There is also a second vent tube from the front diff beside it as well, at least on my 05 Tundra anyway. Yeah, I still wish they made floor shifters and locking hubs.

I've had my 05 headlights submerged more than a few times. Even seen it over the hood a time or two and have not had a problem, yet.

My brother has had to unplug, clean, dry and seal the plug to his Z71 transfer many times for this reason.

Some day I'll miss my old manual transmission. At least if you get to deep and drown the engine you can use the starter to walk the truck out. Been there, done that.

Had the same problem in my 01, started as an intermitent problem, dealer said no warranty so I took it home. Opened up the actuator switch(on the actuator where the electric connector goes in), three philips screws(or four long time ago) found two brass switching plates corroded, took some emery cloth polished, coated with dielectric grease and reassembled. That was 55,000kms ago and it has worked just fine. Notified Toyota but I guess there is no money in fixing faulty parts. I saved a pile.
