1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Question About Front Split Bench Seat", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Has anyone swapped their newer style (2005-2006) 60/40 front bench with an older style (2000-2004) 60/40? It appears that the tracks are 1" off on both seats so hopefully I can figure that little detail out. But, on the 2004 seat I inspected at a dealership, there was a dogbone shaped (support?) piece that was bolted on top of the transmission hump. The 2003 seat that I aquired didn't come with that piece. So I guess I'm wondering, is the dogbone thing part of a 2003 seat? What is it's purpose &/or do I really need it? If anyone has performed this swap, can you pass on any words of wisdom?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey I have a 2006 AC and I want to change my bench seat to the older style so you can reach in the back. I hate the new bench seat. Let me know when you get it installed and how. Also if you have any pointers on where to go to buy the old seat I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you sit someone in the midde a metal support under the seat is riding on the dog bone providing support. The middle section is kind of cantilevered out over the transmission hump.

Oops, I just posted a reply on a similar question on another posting. The swap works. Yes the mounting bolts seem off when you measure them but when you move the tracks on the older style, it fits into a 2006 perfectly. I only switched the 60% side and it matched up well with the 2006 40% side. The seat frame on the 2000-2004 is stamped metal and the 2006 is tubular steel. The tricky part is transfering the SRS components from the 2006 seat to the replacement seat. You have to remove ALL the wiring from the 2000-2004 seat and replace it with ALL of the 2006 wiring and sensors into the replacement seat. It works but you have to be cautious and be pretty detail oriented. Junkyard's the best place to find one at a reasonable price.
