Default Think the '07 5.7 will be quicker than '06 4.7?

With the increased size over the current model, as well as a larger more powerful engine, do ya'll think the new access cab with the 5.7 and 2W.D. will be quicker than a 15.2 in the 1/4 mile? Kinda hope not.

It will definitely be but only by a few tenths because of the weight gain...nothing some 4.7 tweaking can't make up for.

Weight makes a huge difference, look at the F150 with the 5.4 300hp and it feels sluggish. I ran 14.9@92mph with my 05 AC 2WD. THe new Tundra will be big and heavy and powerfull but I bet it won't beat my 05.

I'll take that bet. My guess is Toyota will utilize lighter materials in the 07 and it will probably be in the same weight class it is now with a lot more power AND a 6 speed tranny. If that's the case, be ready to see alot of 07 tail lights.

I agree with Phil. But why 6 speeds? I have six in the wife Touareg, and it seems to hunt for gears more than anything. 5 to me is perfect! Unless there is a diesel comming?

Aisin new 6 speed auto transmission Used in the all new 07 Tundra is a more pr-oven re;iable Transmission used for towing needs and it doesn't hunt for gears as much. This Transmission is ideally suited to truck's and the needs for the MY 07 Tundra Buyer requiring Most towing demands plus with the Axel ratio being much better with the all Tundra being towing Capacity is 10 000 lbs pounds This Truck will be a class leader. The Word on Diesel for 07 Isnt talked about yet if they decide to go in that direction for 08 or beyond (stay Turned?)

I guess I'll have to go and try one .

Like the Ford, it can tow close to 10 000 lbs, but only has 4 speeds. To me if the Ford had five, it would perform much better.

Great results! What track did you run at? What mods were done? I plan to put lower profile tires on mine ( with some steel rims from a salvage yard) so as to gear it lower. I first wanted to run mine all stock for a base line figure.

How about it then. What's your secret? I'm racing again this Thurs. Probably remove the spare tire and the tailgate, plus run a slightly higher octane premium and leave the stock air pressure in the tires. Hope to see 15.1s. and possibly 90 m.p.h.

I guess it all depends on the weight and rated HP, they have not said what the power numbers would be yet. It depends what we are comparing here, I think the 07 may be possibly a hair quicker than the current DC BUT not the current access cab.

Oh well, looks like the "quick Canadian", 4.7 vvt-i can't back up his bragging about the 1/4 mile times. I, on the other hand, am going racing again tomorrow. I'll post the info. even if it's not as good as last time.

A 5R100 behind a 5.4L = A even bigger gas guzzler

The advantage is: The 5R100 will probably last longer than the engine

I could care less how fast I can cover a 1/4 mile with my empty truck. I want to do truck things: towing and hauling heavy loads, safely. If that costs me .2 sec in a 1/4 mile, I won't notice. If it gives me the ability to haul and tow more, I'm pleased as punch.
