DC Lumber Rack??

Does anyone have a solid lumber rack on their DC? Something other than the t-rac, I wan't one that goes over the cab so I can handle 20 footers. If you've got one I would appreciate a pick or two, I am interested in how it will interface with the plastic bed rail cap.

I use mine in that capacity but I have the gemtop workmaster canopy on mine.

I have had to put the long stuff into the rear window and extend it into the cab. (not the best option though)

The top is rated for 250lbs and I am considering the roof rack option for the longer items.

Do you have a fred rader mill store around your area? They sell kargomaster truck racks. Or find a welding shop to make one for you.

I am a builder and have used my 03 AC Tundra for work since I bought it. I have a "Rack it" lumber rack. It is built pretty well and I have even gotten some compliments from people (yeah about a lumber rack). They also sell ratchet tie-downs that bolt on to the rack. They are kind of spendy but can be a real time saver. I have had no problems with that setup. My only improvement would be longer straps but they limit that so you can't tie a huge load. I would imagine they make racks for the DC. They manufacture in SoCal (City of Industry I think) so should be an easy find at a truck top distributor.

Originally it was bolted directly on top of the plastic bed caps then a Leer cab high camper shell on top of that. As you might guess I ended up with some leakage issues. I just recently pulled everything off and went with a more permanent waterproofing solution cause I can't have leaks... but that is another story.

if you don't mind the extra length, a hitch helper allows you to stash long stuff in the bed and support it out the rear. i put a 14 ft canoe in my bed and long ladders. 20 foot lumber would be no problem. just put a red flag on the end and you're good to go. they run about 100 bux and it keeps the center of gravity low and no problems with brackets/bed rail caps or scratching up the top of the truck. ;-)

I uploaded a few photos of my setup. I know it is not a DC but you get the idea. The rack is way solid and you could damage the truck bed before damaging the rack.

You may have a "look" issue with just a lumber rack on top of the plastic bed caps. I ended up custom cutting my bed caps so that they are flush with the rack, and that is all covered by the shell. A rack with no shell will obviously have a different size footprint, so not sure how it would lay out with no shell.

Thaks guys for the suggestions. Highlevel - thank you for the pics, that is a nice looking external rack. I was unable to find a Rack-it website other than a store in Sandy Eggo. I know the Tundra access cab and double cab have much different rail caps. The DC has these big thick plastic jobs that feel quite soft when you stand on them. I just don't know how well that cap will hold up with a load of 2x's or a glue lam up top.
Stan01 - Thanks for the suggestion on the Kargomaster. Looks like a nice rack also and they say it can be adjusted to fit and full size truck. I might see if I can find one in person and try a test fit.

The AC has those thick bed rail caps also. When they bolted down the rack the caps get squashed slightly.

Rack-it does not have a website that I have found. They are only accessible through distributors as far as I know.
