Default 2000 Tundra - considering- priced too high?

According to KBB it is. I wanted some input here. As you know, I have been considering a new/newer car truck. I have about decided to get a "base" 06' Tundra V6, but I found a 2000 Tundra SR5 ext cab, with V8 and 4WD that I think I just have to have.

It is at one of the local Toyota dealers. It has 117K miles, and they are still asking $13,995, but I think I can get it for around $10,500, which is KBB PP value. It is like new, black, with tan interior and has all records - is a 2-owner. Do these have any issues? Would I be better off getting a NEW 06' 2WD V6, for only $3000-$4000 more? I am also considering a 2000 Avalon, but thats a different story.

Thanks in advance.

Tough choice. I hade a 2000 4WD Limited Tundra Access cab and drove it for almost 5 years. It had 86,000 miles on it when I sold it (almost 2 years ago). I sold it for $15K. It was in great condition and I never had any trouble with it. I always figured it was good for 300,000 miles as longs as I maintained it well (oil, lube, filters, etc.). It ran just like new when I sold it.

If I were you, I would look into the price of a new 2006 but in the V8 if you want to tow anything or if you haul reasonably heavy stuff in the bed.

I'm now considering buying a 2006 or 2007 Double Cab. I'm waiting to see how I like the new 2007 before I make the choice.

I sure miss my 2000 Tundra. I have been driving an Avalon since I sold my Tundra and sure miss my truck!

Good luck with your decision.

What I would do is look for a "gently used" 05 V6 ext. cab. As long as you aren't going to be towing or hauling heavy loads, you don't really need the V8. By getting a 1-year old car, you still have some warranty time remaining, and you'll save money.

I would never buy a 100k+ mile vehicle that would be used as a daily driver, no matter who it's made by.

Thanks for the replies. Well, I really would not be ever towing anything and I am sure that the V6 would be sufficient. I tested a 06' Tundra regular cab, with the V6, automatic and found the power to be adequate for me. The truck I tested had some sort of squeak (brakes/seat or something), so I passed on it. It was the only regular cab they had. I remembered later that my mothers ex-sister-in-laws husband works at one of the local dealerships and he said he could get me that same truck $19,400, with the $3000 rebate, making it $16,400 and in the color I wanted, but they may have to get it sent in from another dealer. I really like it, but I like the looks of the 2000 SR5 V8 ext cab and for about what- $4000-$6000 less? I looked at it today and it appears to have been extremely well cared for. It has 116K, but it looks like new.

He also has a 2000 Avalon XLS, loaded to the maximum, with 125K that he said I could get for about $8500 in EC.

bought my 2000 limited ac 4x4 v-8 with 99k on it and its been a great rig. got 115k on her now with no issues. guy sold it because he used it as a commuter. had no tow hitch which was great it means he never towed with it! everything works great just wish it came with keyless and the radio ( in typical toyota fashion ) has quit recognizing cd's in the changer. i say if you like it and it checks out well mechanically go for it and enjoy your savings on a well equipped truck!
