1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "HIDs installed, now fog lights don't work", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Sorry if this question has been posted before, but I've been scouring this site and the rest of the web without much luck.
My friend installed HIDs on my 2006 AC, and they're fantastic, but I guess somehow when installing them he disabled the factory fog lamps, as now it's not possible to get them to turn on.
Doing research a few weeks ago, I found someone else who had this problem and solved it by installing a light bulb somehow between the HID and the fog lamp or something of the sort, but that just sounds silly.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a solution to this problem? I greatly appreciate any assitance that can be offered. Thanks!!

Jeremy, not sure of what happened during the install but my friend has an 06 with HID headlights (hi/low) and also has HID foglamps... they all work fine with eachother..
check your relay/fuse under the hood... its possible during/after the install somewhere it got shorted and blew

Did you ask him at all if he messed with the fog lamp wiring while installing the HID's?
It's actually a 2-way HID kit but it was missing the mechanism to swtich to brights, so the connection for the hi beam is just open. To my knowledge, it's not on the same circuit as the fog light.
If anyone has access to the wiring diagram for the headlight/fog light, that could be helpful.

yeah that would cause the fogs to not work.. good catch!
i think i have the wiring diagram at home.. i know i have the interior diagram for the blinker stalk... but if i do have the headlight diagram, i'll be glad to send your way later tonight!
Hey, guys im new to the forum i just installed a set of bi-xenon HID's and im having the exact same problem, and cannot figure out a workaround. Anyone else have better luck? thanks in advance!
With the HID's installed, your vehicle computer does not sense any power resistance when your lights are on so it does not send power to your fogs. Good HID kits are powered by ballasts wired directly to the battery, and not the OEM H4 plug. Your factory H4 plug is now simply sending a signal to the ballast to turn your HID's on, not running lights. With no load on the H4 plug, you truck doesn't know the lights are on, and sends no power to you fog light switch on the stick.
If you install a 20 watt resistor to your factory harness, the vehicle now senses a LOAD, and your fogs will work perfectly as they should.
If you can read, go back and read my posts and new post on what I did to install the radio shack resistor. Not a light bulb, but a resistor.

I didn't wire a light bulb in... I tested with a light bulb to prove my theory that when an amp draw is on the low beam side, that the fogs would work. And I was right.
It's silly that someone with limited electrical ability is attempting to install an HID kit in the first place... and even sillier that many re-wire the vehicle fogs to toggle on/off on a seperate switch. That's way more work and a non factory working install than my $3.00 resistor. :-)
