Default 2004 tundra trd max speeds in 4HI and 4LO

Hi guys, I just got a 2004 toyota tundra crew cab trd and it sure is a nice truck. I do have a few questions though

What are the max speeds I should drive with the 4HI engaged? What about 4LO?

I have read my manual and searched online and on this forum with no answers, can anyone provide me with this information?

Thank you.

Geoffrey.

Excellent question, I searched through my manual as well, and didn't see anything about a maximum speed for 4hi. I suppose any speed is fine.

As for 4 lo, maybe keep it below 3500 rpm, just to be safe.

I cannot speak for the 2004, but for my brand-new 2006 the maximum speed for 4-hi is 62 miles per hour.

That seems awfully fast for conditions requiring 4WD!

That's the maximum speed for engagement of 4WD-high while on the fly. 4WD-low range requires a complete stop and a shift into neutral. Lots of high performance vehicles have full time all-wheel drive, with no top speed restrictions. If conditions require 4WD, i.e. snow, mud, etc., hopefully common sense will prevail.

These vehicles have a center differential, which a truck does not.

It is bad for the transfer case to run in 4wd when there is plenty of traction.

Use 4wd when you need to, if you need 4wd you don't have any business going that fast.

I don't think that's the maximu speed for 4wd, that's the maximum speed to shift from 2wheel high to 4 wheel high.

I've driven in 4HI up to about 75 mph, but never any faster, that was between snow patches.
