Looking to buy Nerfs for the 06 Tundra double cab (Silver). Which brand should I get? Looking at Westins and Smittybilts. Anybody heard of Smittybilt? I've been doing a little bit of reserch. The Smittybilt's been around for 35 years. I can pick up a pair of stainless steel Smittybilt surestep tube bars for $125 brand new. The Westin's (signature series) I can get for around $230 brand new. Whats the difference between the 2? Or are there anything else out there in Nerf land thats equal or better? Any input would be deeply apprieciated.
Whatever you do get POST PICS! I have the same silver double cab and can't decide what to do either. Good luck - check out the Nasta Nerf's from what I've read they are 100% stainless, bars, brackets, bolts and all!!! Good luck and PLEASE post some final pics!
I've got Smittybilt black stepbars on my white 04 AC, mainly because they flexed less when I jumped on them. I got the dual pad version. I settled on black both for the price and the black powdercoat, should it need it, can be rattlecan repaired. They are STOUT!
What I like and have are the Onki "nerf board" It is a true hybrid in that it has the look of a nerf with the side having true rounded stainless steel side caps and functionality of a running board with it’s highly textured rubberized step (6.5" wide!!! compared with usual 4" running board or 3" nerf bar) and an integrated body rubber gap strip. There is no gap between the step and the cab body (keep debris off the truck and keeps snow/mud from piling on the step)...the nerf bars or challenger bars have a gap between the step and cab which I dont like. At 6.5" wide you dont have to worry about slipping off or between the bar and the truck body in incliment weather either
see my photo gallery for install instructions and final pics!!

You should get stainless steel because stainless is the most rust resistant (aluminum is rust resistant also, but there are very few aluminum nerfs). There is only one brand that sells 100% stainless including the mounting brackets, bolts, nuts, and washers. The brand is Nasta. Westin Platinum Series is stainless steel steps, but the hardware is not. So, is it a big deal that the hardware is not stainless? mmmm....could be.

Honestly the hardware on my Westins is very thick(like twice as thick as the shock mount hanger thingys).....
the frame will rot before these things fail.....I think it's really a non-issue IMO(maybe make removal a bit more difficult in like 3 years or so?)

The mounting brackets are powdercoated carbon steel. In about 2 or 3 years, the powdercoating will begin to come off. When that happens, the carbon steel will immediately start to rust.
The powdercoating comes off for several reasons. A rock can chip it or the moisture/impurities from within the metal make their way to the surface after a few years and cause the powdercoating to release. I see this sort of thing almost daily.
Not sure how much of a difference it really makes, but I went for the NASTA's with all stainless. As stated earlier, even down to the brackets and mounting bolts. Ordered the for SVCustoms.com, was 257.00 shipping included and was at my front door in 2 days. I will attach a few pict's later, have to figure out how to re-size them.

Mine came with the truck from the dealer, but they look EXACTLY like the ones in your pic. They don’t move when I step on them and they look great. My 2-year-old uses them to climb in and out of the truck.
The funny part is if the truck had not come with them I never would have bought them, but now that I have tried them and like how they look all my future trucks will have them.
I just ordered the nasta nerf bars from svcustoms and the total came to $270 shipped. I looked at the pdf files at the different manufacturers and when I discovered that they were all basically the same specs I chose the most cost effective one for my double cab.
Are there any "nerf bars" that are strong enough to actually support the truck (act as sliders) or does one have to purchase/fab sliders?
I like the look of nerf bars, but I want something strong enough to jack the truck up from or slide over rocks.
