Okay folks, there seems to be a bit of confusion here, so let me try to clear it up.
The 1st generation Tundra's (2000-2006) had NO back-up camera option from the factory or from the dealer. Anyone that has one has an AFTERMARKET unit that they installed wherever they wanted (bumper, tailgate, license plate, etc).
The 2nd generation Tundra's (2007+) DO have a back-up camera option from the factory that uses either the in-dash nav system screen OR a small overhead mounted screen IF the truck doesn't have the factory nav system. The camera is integrated into the tailgate handle.
This thread was started to see if there would be any interest from 1ST GENERATION (2000-2006) owners to buy a back-up camera system that was integrated into the tailgate handle (similar to the 2007+) so it looked like it came from the "factory". This "Tailgate Back-Up Camera" would have to be specially made by an aftermarket manufacturer because the tailgate handle for the 1st gen Tundra's is different than the 2nd gen Tundra's.
The original company that said they would make the 1st gen tailgate camera said we needed about 100+ people interested to make it worth manufacturing (cost would be about $350, if I recall correctly). Over 150+ people responded, but the original company walked away for some reason. We have been trying to find a NEW company since then to make this camera.
So far, it doesn't seem we have found one.
Just wanted to clear things up because a few people seemed to be getting this confused with the '07 back-up camera system.
