You should keep your original grill in case you trade to a dealer. They like to see absolute stock.
The grill is easy to install. I sandblasted and color matched a Toyota emblem for the center of the grill. Gives it that one of a kind look.

What did you do with the chrome strip on the bumper?? Truck looks great, I want to do pretty much the same with mine except I have a grill guard as well. Did you get mirror covers as well or just have the chrome painted over?

Thanks

I was wondering about the plastic chrome strip the rests on the tops of the bumper (sorta echos the pattern of the OEM grill)... Anyone have any luck getting it off without trashing the finish on the bumper?

I removed the accent piece -- it's held on by 7 clips & a strip of the same adhesive used on the badges just along the top edge of the piece -- and then sanded the chrome/mylar with 180 grit sandpaper, used some bonding primer and then refinished with OEM paint & clear. Same deal on the mirrors which are only half done at this point.

I didn't take photos of the bumper with the accent piece removed, but someone else did.... which makes it pretty apparent why your options are limited.

Thanks for the post... Toy can use 7 clips to hold on a piece of artwork but can't include an OEM license mount - things that make you go hmmm...

Why don't they make these for 00-02 Tundras? Can I modify the 03-05 to make it work on an 01?

They don't work because the grill is installed differently on the 00-02 than it was on the 03+.

Don't quote me on this, I don't believe you can mod an 00-02 to fit this, unless you have the 03+ bumper and hood as well.

By the way, ya'll have great taste.

Andy ,

Yes you can make the grill work but the only problem's you run into is the filler strips used on the 00-02 tundra will need to be removed so the grill clear's. Also you need to update your 00-02 with the new filler strip's on the 03-06 Tundra. I have a picture showing this on my Old 2000 Tundra with an 2003 Grill. The part's dept guy's in the Atlanta Ga area are compleat moron's telling me it wouldn't work ahh let's see everything bolt's up fine just had to remove that filler peice and it's done .I think i surprised them driving up and saying hey guy's it worked LOL..

Erik

this is my 2004 Tundra

This is my Old 2000 Tundra with the fabbed 2003 Grill Noticed under the headlight the filler strip's and compare against my 2004 Tundra above..

Erik,

So the filler pieces are the same size only shorter? They mount the same? Was it really as simple as taking out the one long filler on the 00 and replacing it with two short fillers from an 03-05? The grill mounts and fits the same? How much did you pay for the two filler pieces?

If you look and review my photo's below it clearly shows what is involved Look under the headlights. Mounting is the same on the two filler pieces however the 00-02 Tundra is one peice (filler) vs 2 peiced used on the 03-06 setup.Grill is the same since Toyota didn't change anything on the design. Only mod's involved is buying the hood latch release bar because the 03-06 is longer vs the 00-02 but it's simple bolt on easy simple update. I'll post a Toyota Part's list showing this taken apart..

Erik

Cool! I would appreciate it. So I could choose between a T3 or a color keyed sports grill with this mod as either grill for an 03-06 would work on my 01 right?:

your going to have a very rare time finding My T3 grill unless you buy new at $300 dollar's or search ebay .T3 Grills are rare about 860 T3 Made for 2003 and replacement part's that are very likely fadding out in the system for Toyota. Like i stated before Grill bolt's on the hood on all Tundra model's it's the filler strips you run into changing. Hood grill mounting point's are the same except you will need a new 03-06 Hood latch since it's longer. Ps Part's dept people in my area were Moron's and didn't know much I tend to retain this since i've done the Mod and wouldn't take No as some lame aneswer. Toyota did a slight update didn't mean they changed the whole truck out it's the small detail's in design that makes this project soo intresting..

Erik, Are you saying we can still purchase new grills from Toyota that are like the one you recently found on ebay? Are these called T3 grills or TRD grills? $300 is just a little more than the other model from the previous post.

The one I have is a T3 grill Not sure what the picture below show's a Trd emblem on it because they never made those unless it's some reginal option . So far I've never seen that option since i stay on top's on updates and aftermarket stuff /Factory oem on the first gen Tundra. You can buy a T3 grill but you will need a Vin to gain access to the part and that is very easy go on ebay and find one and call a dealership and gain the part. Sometimes you have to play tricks to get it with certain part's dept or call my friend Bill In Texas who sell's Oem Toyota and he will hook you up.

Erik.

Pm me if your intrested in gaining a T3 grill.
