1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "CV boot leak", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
I have a 2003 Tundra 4x4 and had a Daystar 2" leveling spacer kit installed on the front and a add-a-leaf on the rear a couple of years ago. Ever since, my CV boots have been leaking grease. I recently installed a 1" lowering kit but the boots still seem to leak some. The boots have no tears. Anyone know of a good fix?

Change out the stock clamps or change to longer cv boots.
Where do you buy modified cv boots at? Are they the spirial design?
I haven't done it yet, I just purchased the 2.5 inch daystar lift with 1.5 inch aal and 1inch diff drop. I am planning to change out the stock clamps with the hose clamp style you can find at the hardware store. As for the cv boots I think they are called porsche 930 they go for about $60. Do a forum search on the clamps and the longer boots there is tons of info on it. But try the clamps first see if that works for ya.
With a 3" leveling kit on front and stock TRD in rear. I also have the diff. drop installed should I still have a leak. If so I will look into the clamp idea and longer boots. Also I have a bottoming out sound when the wheels drop on a dip or bump. Sounds like a loose part or a fully extended thunk. Anyone have any ideas or experienced this.
Prior to my solid axle swap, I had numerous lifts ranging from 2.5" to 3". I had also had the grease leaking from the boots, but never tore a CV boot. Either on the road or offroading. I did however, change the stock clamps to the hose clamps I got from Home Depot. I had no diff drop. Having the diff drop is cheap insurance. As far as the aftermarket boots, I've seen those torn with just 2" of lift.
Well I printed a PDF of the installation instructions from the maker of the diff drop I bought along with pictures of where it should be. My concern is that the reason they were leaking is due to a poor mechanic wondering what those "big washers and long bolts were for" and ditching them without installing them. I briefly looked for them the other day while I greased my driveshaft and zerks but did not notice the diff drop. I was not truely looking closely but I did not see them. Good to hear that leaking boots with multiple different lifts maybe I'm not crazy. I'll look closer tonight and see.
i just noticed last week that my passenger side boot was throwing grease everywhere,i noticed instead of lamps on the ends there was only friggin zip ties! Either the guys that put my coilovers on replaced the clamps for whatever reason? It took them 7 hours to install them and align the truck?Or the shop that replaced my driveshaft and u joints last year?Anyway i replaced all the cv clamps with the hardware store hose clamps

That puts a lot of pressure on that short stock upper control arm and ball joint if I'm not mistaken. Do a search on the forum for UCAs/ball joints and/or 3" lifts. Lots of information about the geometry of the front end.
