1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "early pitting on one chrome step bar", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Purchased my 06 DC XSP in October. It has chrome step bars, and yes I did expect them to pit over time. After 3 months, the driver side step bar has a lot of pitting, the passenger side has none. It is parked in my garage, and gets washed weekly. What gives? anybody else experience early pitting on their XSP's step bars?

If it is chrome (mine is polished steel) use 000 or 0000 steel wool. It will take most imperfections out.

wish i had noticed your post earlier. mine too pitted. garage kept washed and waxed very often. service manager gave me a bunch of crap concerning pitting. called the warranty girl at my dealership. she said she would check into it. within an hour she called back and said new ones were on the way. she was soo happy with herself she was actually funny! this was a southeast xsp and she said they admitted to having had a few problems with pitting.
I have had the same this happen as well. First time was when the truck was 6 months old. This time it has actually started to peel. It is kinda a pain b/c I dont live in NC anymore. So the dealer in IN had to contact Southeastern Toyota directly to get new ones. They have been order and will come in someday soon hopefully. Ill post a pic so you can see what im talking about.

on the 2005 and 2006 south eat toyota corp, used a company , they look awesome. i love mine and don't have so fr any issue's, my friend does. i told him what i heard out of the director's mouth. the company went belly up, went out of business.
and toyota is aware of the issue. the only thing is , YOU WILL NOT GET THE SAME TYPE.
i personally hate the new look of the runner's now. they are horrible looking and shorter. they need to be wheel to wheel. other iwse they look cheap.

I have had the exact same problem with mine and they got replaced with the newer ones, b/c they told me toyota didn't have anymore. Well, I got a second opinion and come to find out they did have some and put them on my truck. Now they are doing it again, and they don't want to stand behind them b/c I wanted what was on my truck when I bought it. They are basically telling me that it is my fault for this happening but they never told me why toyota quit carrying them either. If I knew there were quality issues I would not have been persistent about having the original ones on it. I have contacted a toyota c/s rep just waiting to hear back. I really like the ones I have now and would like them to just give the money back on them and then I will have them linexed.
mine started pitting/peeling back around Jan. and i had the same identical ones installed within 10 days. don't know what will happen if these start the same thing.

Well, my dealership told me that they couldn't get them. Just curious but what dealership did you deal with on yours. Mine definetely took longer than 10 days to get.
What happens is the dealership has to contact Southeasthern Toyota Dist. Then they ship the parts to your dealer and pay your dealer for the install labor. Dealers that fall into the Southeastern region already know who to contact for parts. Whereas those outside the region do not. Most dealers do even know that the X-SP is a factory package. I am dealing with a situation now where I bought the truck in North Carolina. Here in Indiana the X-SP isnt available, so the dealerships have no access to order these parts themselves. They have to contact Southeastern to order the parts. I have not heard anything about them using other steps. When the original ones were replaced they had to reorder b/c the wrong ones were sent. But I think they sent the ones for the 07 instead of the 06. My dealer just contacted me to let me know that they were in so I'll have to see if they are the same style or not. So if you run into this situation all you have to do is contact the dealer where you bought it and ask for the number to Southeastern and then give it to your new dealer. And they should be able to take care of you.
