Default 3.4 V6 Access Cab gas mileage?

I'm considering a certified used 2003 Tundra Access cab 4x2, automatic trans, but I'm afraid of how low the gas mileage numbers will be.

In comparison, I'm looking at a 2006 Tacoma Access Cab 4 cylinder 4x2 as well (and created a thread in the tacoma forums for that). I do mostly highway driving, so I'm mainly looking for those numbers.

The Tacoma will probably get better gas mileage. But the Tundra will have more torque. Those V6's are soldiers!

I have driven my 3.4L V6 2003 Tundra 58,000 miles and my average miles per gallon is 17.5. I drive 20+ miles one-way to work on the highway.

I have a spreadsheet that tracks all my mileage for every fillup and the first 30,000 miles are bringing down my average. So your average might be slightly higher since you are looking at a broken in (used) model, but don't expect much.

I have a 2000 4x4 Access cab V-6 with the 5 speed. When I only had a camper shell on the top I always averaged right around 20 with mostly highway and a little town. I did get higher quite a few time but 20-22 was the norm. I now have a 4 Wheel Camper Pop-up that weighs around 700 lbs and get 16-17 on mostly highway. It really eats gas with high winds or high speed (above 65 with the camper) I can watch it with my scangague. I was in Alaska for a 20,000 mile trip and averaged just a hair over 20 with the camper up top. The reason for the great mpg was I never could get it over 50mph. Dirt roads, frost heaves and road breaks were the norm. I know the automatic will get less mpg from what I have seen.

My uncle has a 2003 extended cab v6 4x4 and gets about 20/21 mpg. I believe he got that using mid grade gas, as he found he got a decent amount better mileage using it. You should get better mileage with the 4x2.

I have a 2000 AC 3.4 with automatic and drive 52 miles a day of mostly highway driving. I typically get 20.X mpg. During the winter I usually get 19.X. Not bad considering I have a tool box across the bed with probably 300-350 lbs. of tools and junk in it all the time. I did take one trip of about 400 miles with it during the summer and got 21.8 on the highway.
