Default Tundra Max Tire Size??

I would like to get different tires and wheels on my 2007 Tundra when it arrives. Can someone please tell me the max diameter and width that will work on the Crewmax Limited 4x4?

Without knowing the meausrements where the wheel and tire are going it is very hard to say.

As a general rule most stock trucks can take tires "one size up." After that you need to measure the room that a particular tire will have and base your decisions on that.

Usually the most important measurement is how much clearance there will be between the control arm and the sidewall of the tire. Generally that is you limit on tread width.

Your frame and mud flaps are going to determine the diameter that will allow no or minimal rubbing. At least what ever you are willing to put up with that is safe. This will be a function of section width and section hight. Which works like this.

285 70R17

285 is the width of the tire in mm.
70 is the % of the width that the tire is tall in mm. Basically a ratio
ie. 285 x 75% = 199.5 mm = 7.85 in (remeber this is only the highth of the sidewall on one side.
R indicates the type of ply in this case R is Radial about 95% of tires.
17 is the rim size.

So the total diameter of this tire is:
7.85 in + 17 in + 7.85 in = 32.7 in

The width is:
285mm x 25.4mm/in = 11.22 inches

I have a set of 305s on a 03 AC, they barely cleared the control arm by less than an inch. It has a three inch lift. And they rubbed on the frame and mud flaps when turned sharply. Myself, Toyota and Goodyear were very surprised that fit on as well as they did. Toyota had to realign the front end manually using their computers instead of the presets for that model. They didn't void any warranty and in fact took pictures. I took a big chance because if they had mounted those tires and they hadn't cleared the control arm I would own a tire I could not use. Luckily they fit real tight. Actually just barely, a second set the same tire and size might not fit.

I have the 285 on an 04 DC. They are very clear of the control arm. They do not rub on the frame. They do rub sometimes on the mud flaps. I could cut a small portion of the flap away to prevent this, but it really doesn't matter. They did raise the truck about 1.5 inches without a lift or altering any of the suspension. I personally like this set up the best.

I am told you are better off not modifying your suspention with lifts or spacers. As the resulting geometry puts stress or more stress that might cause a failure. Big lifts and Big tires very often wind up upside down on their roofs. Been there done that. Sliding down the highway at 55 upside down watching the sparks fly off the hood, roof, and pavement is not a pleasant experience.

What I was told was to lift the vehicle with a taller tire rim combination, which is what I accomplished on my DC. It actually seems taller that the AC with a 3" lift.

One comment I have about the 07 Tundra. They have to have 18 in rims to accomodate the large brake rotors and calipers. You will have less options for different tires or tire sizes for the 18" rim. Which kind of svcks. The rims are also more expenive. I replaced an 17" and it cost around $650.

So I guess what the short version of my post is, is that you are going to have to wait and see.

And sorry for the windy part of this post.

Great info and I appreciate your response. The TRD package has the P275/65R18 BF Goodrich Tires. This is 32.07". Do you think this Terra Grappler would work? It is 32.52". I will ask the dealer about the width.LT285/65R18 E 125R200-81016.532.5211.22

That should work. It is basically one size up.
