1Gen-TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2000 to 2006 Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "Tundra Ball Joint Recall", within the 1Gen-Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
Another lower ball joint recall, this time on the newer models, you would think that Toyota would have figured out an answer to the problem after five years. On the other "Ball Joint Failures" thread, some have come to the conclusion that greaseable zerk-fitted suspension ball joints like on the old Toyota pickups could alleviate the problem of premature wear and water intrusion...but this could also be a design/engineering issue. One of the biggest corporations in the world should be able to correct this serious problem before any more injuries or accidents occur as per document.

I'm really not convinced the '00-01s were not affected. What does the recall claim was wrong this time? I have to take my truck into a dealer soon (rear differential leak) and will defiantly bring this up.
Read this article this morning: http://money.cnn.com/2007/01/19/auto...ex.htm?cnn=yes
Ok, I'm confused. The article talks about defective lower ball joints which I thought was addressed on a previous recall. My Toyota dealer indicated to me the ball joints on my 2004 Tundra had been replaced at the factory prior to my purchase so I had no issue. Now this comes out indicating Toyota will be notifying owners in February 2007. Is this a totally different problem?

For those of you that had this recall performed previously (on earlier models) I think you should be asking questions about the replacement parts. Were the newer model ball-joints (the ones NOW being recalled) the same as the ones used to "update" the previous units? If so, you're back to square one on all these trucks.
So... since this is still affecting brand new vehicles, my question is... would this affect the ones that were replaced in the previous recall (01-03, I think)?
I had mine replaced under recall in Dec 2005.... Did they use the ball joints that are now being recalled?
I know my 04 double cab is effected..got off the phone with Toyota. What sux is that they said I can't get if fixed until I get my recall letter. What if something happens between now and then?
i have d-hoes. im going to try one dealer around here. if they deny it i guess ill just swap in the stockers and try the next dealer over. i highly doubt they will deny a recall issue.

might wanna be carefull sometimes dealers document their findings into a corporate data base. The next dealer might know it was rejected somewhere else.
