Default Tundra Double Cab does not COMPROMISE on bed length .....

From the official 2004 announcement of the new Double Cab ....

" Tundra Double Cab does not compromise on bed length to offer greater rear passenger room. At 74.3-inches, the Tundra Double Cab bed is within one-half inch of the Tundra Access Cab and approximately seven inches longer than the bed in either the new Ford F150 Super Crew or Nissan Titan Crew Cab. The 20.7-inch bed depth is nearly four inches greater than other Tundra models and is one of the deepest of any full-size four-door pickup. "

Ah, those were the days. Guess that for 2007, COMPROMISE is just fine. Maybe the "focus groups" or accountants told them that the Titan's short bed was just OK, and that the new CrewMax didn't really have to be be BETTER in this regard ...

So YEAH - I'm "whining" about the 5.5 bed in the '07 crew cab and I've started a whole new thread to do it! Pretty annoying, eh? Flame away!

But remember, it was not me, but actually TOYOTA who started the braggin' on this in the first place. And NOT so long ago ...

I'm with you on the short bed. It's a killer. Just telling my friend the other day on why not to buy a hybrid like the Avalanche because you sacrifice so much usuable bed space. Then I started bragging on the new Tundra. Whoops!

Put your gardening gloves on and start loading your plants from the nursery. We got a shorty coming.....

I could be totally wrong, but I think Toyota will add a 6' box as an option within the next year or two. It would be stupid for Toyota to not do that and I don't believe they would overlook such a big detail as to why people love the current DC. Give it time, guys.

I considered trading in my 05 DC for the new Crewcab until I found out the short bed issue. I'm better off keeping what I have. I just could not deal with owning such a large truck and such a short bed. My 2 person Quad would not fit due to it's length.

I like it. I wish my 05 had the option of a shorter bed.

But isn't the new '07 DC larger than the existing DC? Toyota's "Double Cab" is actually the equivalent to everyone else's crew - it just has a crazy rear door.

The Crewmax is not your typical crew, which is why they call it "Crewmax." The new Double Cab is huge compared to the '06 DC. It just doesn't look like a crew cab, but more of an extended cab. The Crewmax competes with Dodge's Mega Cab.

I'm not sold on the rear window and door handle in the new Double Cab - riders in back would seem to have a tough time seeing out. I guess it'll have to grow on me.

The 07 DC has a little less leg room in the back than the current DC. I own an 05 DC and have sat in the back of an 07 DC.

So, let me see if I got all this correct: it's bigger overall, has less leg room in the rear as well as a shorter bed. Are the pedals even reachable from the driver's seat or is the engine bay the size of a small Caddy?

Yeah. Except that the Dodge MegaCab 1500 has a 76" bed. NOT a 66" bed.

Yes - totally agree! For me the deal is my kayaks - they're short and fit nicely INSIDE a full size bed, but won't fit in a 5'5" bed ever. And it's so sweet to just toss them in the bed rather than tie 'em up on the roof like before. I was really hot to trade in for an '07 CrewCab as well but now no way ....

Really think Toyota blew it here -- could have stood out from the competition like Titan, Silverado, and others with a full size bed in a CrewCab ...

Hopefully they'll reconsider. Don't think they'll see many current owners trade-up to a CrewCab otherwise ....

IMO, the '04-'06 DC will prove over time to be the best truck ever put out by toyota. It has the best combination, imo, of interior room and bed length to date. I love my DC with my hightop camper, which is just long enough for me to sleep a bit diagional and get my 6'4" frame to sleep pretty comfortable

It looks like you are correct as far as head and leg room go, but check out hip and soulder room. Here's the comparison between the 2006 and 2007 DC's rear room:

2006 DC (rear) vs 2007 DC (rear)
head room 40.2 vs 38.7 (1.5" in favor of the '06)
hip room 58.3 vs 62.6 (4.3" in favor of the '07)
leg room 37.5 vs 34.7 (2.8" in favor of the '06)
shoulder 62.2 vs 65.7 (3.5" in favor of the '07)

The frame on the '07 is 6" wider, and cab is 4" wider, thus the reason for more hip and shoulder room. I don't think head room is a major factor, but losing almost 3" of leg room may hurt the new DC. They really sculped out the back of the new DC seats to get every inch they could.

The problem is that you don't understand waht it is you are talking about. The New 07 Double has a full size 8 foot bed available. The Double cab for 07 is bigger than the 06 double cab. You are talking about the crewmax. The Crewmax is not comparable to the Double cab of 06 period.

The new 07 DC is not bigger than the 06 DC as far as headroom and legroom. Did you miss the last several posts?

Yes, the CrewMax is not comparable to the DC of 06. That was already established. Neither is the DC 06 comparable to the 07 DC. That is the burning issue.
