Well I change my oil every 5k miles sometimes i got over just a little bit like about 700 miles, but my problems is i am not using synthetic oil and i dont know if i should change to it now, i own a 2001 tundra v8,
I dont really want to go to synthetic anyways because i heard of the early tundras getting oil leaks
I am find staying with my reg oil but which one should i got with, i been using mobil 1 is that a really good brand or should i go with something else?
and also for my oil filter i been using the new K&N oil kilter works great.
Thanks!
also i am about 75,000 miles on my truck my next oil change is coming up soon
If you click on the "search" link on the forum menu bar and then go to the advanced search, then put "oil" in the advanced search box and check title search. You will find countless opinions on oil types, change intervals, etc...
stay with mobil 1. i switched to synthetic engine oil in december. no leaks or any problems. i also just siwtched to synthetic transmission fluid. works great so far! i'm probably going to switch to synthetic fluid for the differential as well.
What kind of ATF are you using? Did you notice any change in transmission performance with the change?

I believe that the Toyota ATF is full syn, someone correct me if I'm wrong...
I run Mobil 1 in everything I own, I mean everything. But, as long as you change your oil often, your ok with even the cheapy stuff...
My bro-in-law runs a trucking company, they run dino in all their trucks, and he thinks I'm crazy for spending the extra on syn, and changing the oil so often on top of that... They run tests for Valvoline in their trucks, he swears you don't need syn.

I used Mobil 1 Syn in my '98 F150 every 10,000 miles, and the engine still purrs at 139,000. I can only hope my '06 DC does as well. The small amount extra for the syn is worth its weight in gold. $49 at Walmart for a full syn oil change. That's less than a tank of gas.

Agreed. On top of that you save on gas and it keeps your engine cleaner. When I switched to synthetic I ran it for 1000 miles on the first change, drained it (since it was mixed with regular oil) and am now on my second batch of Mobil 1. I buy the 5 quart Mobil 1 from Walmart ($23.00) plus an extra quart (tundras require 6 quarts, another $6.00), and finally a filter ($4.00). Figure right around $33.00 if you change it yourself. When you drive your truck you will notice the difference, there seems to be no loss in friction HP. The only thing I had to do different is tighten the oil filter a little tighter with synthetic. I have full intentions of running synthetic in all my vehicles from here on out
I've run Mobil 1 in my 2000 Tundra as soon as I broke it in. I am now on 322,000 miles with no engine work at all. I highly recommend Mobil 1 and will be using it in my new Tundra when it arrives.

I use Mobil 1 in the engine, transmission and rear end on my Tundra only because use the vehicle for towing the boat on occasion. Agree, is a far superior oil to the dino based stuff but know of many Honda's, Acura's and Toyota's with over 200K miles that have strictly used the old dino based oils with no issues.
All boils down to preference. I prefer Castol GTX in all my other vechicles but will stick with Mobil 1 syntethic in the Tundra.

No timing belt change? Ticking time bomb right there
I just called my dealer and talked to the service manager. I told him I religiously used Mobile 1 Syn in my F150 and it ran perfectly. He said he's found over the years those who switch to synthetics in Toyota vehicles seem to have more oil leaks than those who stick to "Toyota oil," which he said is Mobile 1 standard oil 5W30. This is interesting. Why would synthetic oil cause leaks in Toyotas over standard oil?
For those who get their oil changed at the dealership, do they offer synthetics, or recommend them? I bet Mobile Oil would be interested in this (if it's true). Synthetic oil would bring in more cash for the service department, so I can't see why he'd be B.S.'ing me.

One thing to always remember about engine oil. Clean oil is good! The
junk that gets into the oil is what causes problems. Not what type.
Oil damages seals?
No oil company will allow that to happen or be proved true. What damages seals?
Again, the junk that gets into the oil.
Does oil cause sludge? All oils cause sludge after a certain point.
Would you buy used oil? yspert
That's one other topic I haven't been up on. Which Toyota vehicles had the engine sludge issues? Did they ever determine what was causing it? I would think a synthetic would be less likely to sludge. Any oil experts in the house?
