I posted this earlier on another thread dealing with Scan Gauge readings, but I thought I would do a new thread for those looking for an easy way to mount it but might not look at that other post.
I just finished installing my Scan Gauge. For those of you who do not use your ashtray, this is a simple way to mount it with the cable not exposed. I used a piece of plywood (same thickness as the ashtray rails), and another small block of wood. I have posted the pics in my gallery.
I cut the front of the mounting base at a 35 degree angle, and the Scan gauge is velocroed to it. The nice part is, it can be easily slid out at any time and the ashetray put back in. I just thought someone else might like to use this idea.
I'm glad you've joined our group, and provide such good ideas, and share the mounting system.
But I'm just curious, isn't there a Titan or Nissan group which would benefit you more?
Not that I'm bashing, don't get me wrong, the Titan is a great truck..especially if mileage isn't a concern...
Opps, that might be bashing. lol
I'm a member of all the Titan boards as well. I'm a member of this forum just because I like Toyota as well. Obviously, I post a lot more at the Titan forums. If you guys don't want me here, I'll be happy to stay over at the Titan forums...It's just nice to meet a new group of people every once in a while. Nice to see other people's perspective on things other than Titan owners. I'm getting good "mileage" with my Titan - I can get around 14mpg in the city, and around 18 in the highway. I've been using E-85 the last two weeks to try it out, even though I know it's not economical to use yet since the price difference is not greater than the loss in mileage with E-85. My Blendmount pictures were posted at the Titan forums last month, but since I saw the Scangauge thread here, I figured you all might like the Blendmount mounting option as well. We have several other brand owners at the Titan boards, so I figured you guys would not mind me posting from time to time here...
I'm just a truck enthusiast! Hope you guys don't mind me here - trust me, I'm not here to cause any trouble.

Nah, I'm just yanking you chain a little.
There are lots of people on Tundra Solutions who don't have a Toyota, they may have had one, then sold it...but its a good group here, and they stay.
Its always nice to have a different perspective.
I considered a Titan before I got my Tundra, but with the options I wanted, the Titan ended up being more expensive and couple with lower mileage and some factory defects I stuck with Toyota.
I usually get around 16 miles per gallon mixed driving, with a fairly heavy foot. So pretty similar numbers to yours.

I have the Blendmount for my ScanGauge and it doesnt fit over the mirror so I am going to modify it to fit under the mirror here is a temporary look until I can do it right

Plywood thickness, length & width as well as the additional block width.
Thanks for sharing the idea.

First of all, I thank all of you for your kind comments.
Actually I didn't make any real measurements. I just took the ashtray out and used it as a guide. The piece of of plywood I used to slide on the rails where the ashtray went was 3/8" (I think-didn't measure that either). When I layed it next to the ashtray, it was the same thickness. The other piece of wood was just a 3/4" piece of wood. I just made it narrow enough to fit in the opening. The length doesn't really matter to much, as long as you don't have it so long it won't go in as far as you want it. Put a slot in the bottom of the mount for the cable, painted it black, put on the velcro (nailed it to the wood), and it was done. The cable was real easy to run since there are openings in the back of the ashtray recess. The angle I put on the front of the mount, by the way, was 35 degrees. Seemed like it has the gauge at just the right angle.

These are both very appealing solutions, IMO. Other than the 180 degree rotation for undermounting, what additional modification are you suggesting the Blendmount needs?
Boy, that looks like a lot of work to run the cable and get it hidden. The advantage you have with yours is looking up rather than down. Looks great!
It's actually very easy..I just pushed the cable up into the headliner "lip" and then ran the cable down the a-pillar. I would think the Tundra would be a very similar install. It's definitely worth it IMO, and the install is a breeze. The only hard part is the final tweaking once it's on there...On the Titan, it's a tight squeeze between the rear-view mirror and the headliner, but it fits perfectly in there once adjusted.
the angle bracket the gauge is mounted to is upside down that is why the wire is coming out the side instead of the back I need another standoff to get it below the mirror and right side up and then bend the bracket so the angle is the same as the mirror i tried to mount it in the upright position but you cant see the readout
