Just thought I'd share a recent upgrade to my 2006 DC.
Had a color matched SnugTop Xtra Vision shell installed along with a Bed Rug.
SnugTop Xtra Vision has worked out great. Purchased it so I could haul my Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky around with me. Opted for the flip up front window option (pictured) which when combined with the Toyota's slide down rear window allows both dogs to hang their heads into the interior cab. Sliding/Screened side windows also allow the dogs to stick their noses/heads from the windows and increases air flow into the shell. Workmanship isn't bad, interior shell carpet has a crease here or there, but not too bad. Rear window closing could be better as I have to put more pressure on one side to close. But overall, very happy with the purchase and I think it looks great.
Bed Rug is also a winner. Nice and soft surface for the dogs and could even be slept on if I utilize the truck for any camping trips. I highly recommend the Bed Rug to anyone not wanting a standard hard plastic liner.
How is the Bed Rug with dog hair? I have dogs that shed like yours and was wondering. You know you have to remove the screens so they can put there head out don't ya!! I did that with mine they love it. Darn pampered dogs...
The dog hair issue isn't too bad. You can probably see some of it in the photos. Anyway, dog hair issue with the Bed Rug is no different than say dog hair on an indoor carpet.
The screens on the Xtra Vision actually slide back. So I can either leave them in place or slide them back with the window which allows the dogs to stick their noses/noggins out. My Siberian Husky loves this feature.
My vet told me one of the most common problems with dogs was eye damage due to them having their head out the window and getting hit with dirt or insects.
An insect at 60mph can blind them permanently.

Any idea how much these do for in a basic configuration, I don't need the tipping window, or anything fancy.

Dogs mainly stick their noses out when the Tundra is parked, since I don't keep the window open all the way it would be a stretch for them to get their whole head out the window, let alone at 60+mph.
Cost wise you will be in the $2K region more or less for one of these shells. Probably lower cost in California since this is where they are made.
To heck with the dogs - I'D ride back there: looks sweet!
I was thinking about getting the bedrug and leaving it in the exposed bed, but the saleperson said that even though it's made for all-weather, it would still HOLD water and anything you put back there would almost always be wet, especially in this part of the country.
If I were getting a camper shell (and I would if I didn't enjoy my back window so much), the bed rug would be the way to go.
So my dog rides up front and smears snot all overt the inside of the windows, instead .
Looks nice. I like that window setup (tip-up in the topper and slide-down in the rear cab) that allows huge access. One question -- can you tip up the topper's window without being in the bed of the truck, but rather from within the cab? Say, for example, I had the be loaded with stuff while travelling, but wanted to be able to get into the front of the bed via the tip-up -- can I do it from the backseat without climbing through the bed?
Yes, easy access from the Tundra's cab into the pickup bed, you can easily poke your head or arm through to the front of the bed. This allows the dogs to poke their heads into the cab during our drives. But NO, the only way to open the flip up interior window is to do it from inside the pickup cab/SnugTop interior. Though one could probably figure out someway to retrofit the current latch to have an exterior handle of some sort.
The only downside to this set up is that I do not have a seal between the Tundra cab and the SnugTop shell. When the weather here was cold ( 30s and below) and I kept both windows open for the dogs, the cool air blew into the cab. Rain of course would also be a big issue. Salesperson advised against installing a seal between the cab and the shell, saying the rubber seal would scratch the Tundra's cab and that the rubber seals do not have a very long life.
I am rethinking this and might possibly get one installed at a later date. Scratches to the cab are not an issue since I plan on having this set up for many, many, many years (which is why I purchased a Toyota in the first place) and I am pretty anal about keeping my vehicle clean (waxing and keeping all rubber/vinyl cleaned up and treated are priorities with me).
I really appreciate you for taking the time to answer this. I really like the look of that topper and because of that tip-up window might rethink my preference for the 07 DC and reconsider the 07 Crewmax.
I'm still not real clear on this:

This suggests that you can open the topper's front tip-up window from both within the pickup cab as well as from within the topper itself. I have no need to open it from completely outside the truck. In other words, are you saying that I can be sitting in the back seat of the truck and then reach back and open the topper's tip-up window, or do if it's closed do I have to crawl into the be and open it from within the topper. Sorry to be so obtuse, but this would really be a great feature for me! If there is a latch on the outside of the topper (between the 2 pieces of glass) how close does it come to hitting the slide-down window in the back of the cab?
The only way you can open the flip up window is to go into the SnugTop fitted bed, you know, open tail gate, hop up inside, etc. You cannot open it via the driver/passenger compartment. I imagine there could be some way another lever could be fitted that would work outside the shell itself, allowing it to be opened via the driver/passenger compartment once the rear window was brought down.
I can take some pics of the lever set up tomorrow if you are interested.
Glad you enjoyed the photos since I was full of questions myself about shells prior to this purchase. The SnugTop seemed to have everything I needed and so far I am very happy with the purchase.
My Bad, yes you can open from the passenger compartment!
My Bad RapidRunner, I looked at the flip up window lever today and I'll be, sure enough, you can use the lever to open the SnugTop window from inside the Tundra's passenger compartment. It looks like a dial type lever outside the shell, easy to turn. So the flip up window can be opened inside the SnugTop and outside the SnugTop (space between the shell and the passenger cab). Since I always open the side windows a crack for the dogs I would just move forward and open the flip top never paying attention to the lever on the opposite side.

Cool -- now I'm sold. I've been thinking it over and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with the new Crewmax -- asssuming SnugTop makes the same feature available on that I'll definitely be looking for one. Thanks for taking the time to update this!
