I still have not recieved a notice for the recall yet. I thought I read in one post that there is a place to check and see if a VIN is on the list. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Are there still a lot of people waiting for the notice?
Yep, still waiting for my recall notice. Finally called the dealer, and they said I didnt need the actuall paper to have the work done. Just have to wait till they get the parts in, then I can bring it in. You should just do the same call your dealer, doesnt even have to be were you bought it, and schedule an appointment.

I had no idea there was a recall. And then, came the day, when my rim folds up into the panel and my undercarrige is scraping asphalt! So it's a good idea to stay on top of this, and not just wait for toyota.

are they doing wheel alignments with this recall? i know it sounds stupid but people will take advantage of ya if they think they can , i would ask for the print out alignment specs when i dropped off my truck to be sure when i picked it up that they did one!! or mark some alignment adjustment points to see if one was done!! Yes i have had poor tech's work on my Toy's and they will play it off as a communication error every time!!

Toyota started sending the recall notices out in early Feb. They say it will take 4-6 months for everyone to receive theirs. Toyota is also having problems making enough ball joints to keep up. They are not sending the dealers everything they are ordering. You don't have to wait for your letter to have the ball joints done, but if you just go to the dealer, you will be taking a chance that they don't have any ball joints. What you need to do is go to the dealer, give them your VIN, and have them order the ball joints for you. Once they enter your VIN into the computer and any ball joints come in, they will be set aside for you. My dealer is only getting a couple of sets every month or so.
Why is everyone waiting all you do is call the dealer verify the work needs to be done bring it in if they won't do it without stupid letter bring it somewhere else one of the dealerships should did it mine did.Don't sit around waiting until your scrapping concrete with under carrage

Why not? It's basically a lawsuit waiting to happen right there (if you survive.) Without the letter, there officially isn't any notice the vehicle has a problem. Just because Toyota announces it in the papers and media doesn't mean that covers their asses for liability. Not to mention most dealerships claim they need that letter to prove warranty work needs to be done. See many of the threads posted already where members have tried to get the recall done but the dealership will not do it without the letter in hand.
If you don't receive the letter and your trucks balljoints fail causing an accident and/or personal injury, get your lawyer on the phone asap. You're in line for a new truck and some settlement money.
