Thanks for the great site, I just bought my first Tundra and I love it. It's a 2006 Double Cab Limited 4x4, Salsa Red Pearl with the tan interior. I've added a limo tinted windows, a stereo, LED taillights & 3rd brake light and dual exhaust with a 50 series flowmaster. My plans include a 6" RCD lift with 20" wheels with 35" tires, big brake kit, custom grille and a cold air intake.

Hello All,
I purchased my 1st generation Tundra new in June '05. Mine is a Phantom Gray SR5, 4X2, 4.7L V8 extended cab. I only have 25k miles on it now, my daily work commute is 5 miles each way. I added a 3 chamber FlowMaster dual exhaust along with my HF and VHF ham radio gear shortly after purchase. I have kept track of every tank of gas on a spreadsheet, the best tank being 20.8 and the worst being 13.6, I found our early that my right foot greatly influences the MPG. Between the great power and the FlowMaster sound, that has been hard to do. The only dislike I have is I wish mine had bucket seats. I tow a lightweight aluminum Bass Tracker Bass boat, so the V6 would have worked, which came with bucket seats standard in '05. But after reading a few postings on this forum, it appears that the V6 gets about the same MPG as my V8 does, go figure.

New to this forum. I recently purchased an 05 AC 4x4 TRD tow pkg. spray in bed liner, 2'' leveling lift in front roadmaster active suspension on leaf springs. Inside a pioneer head with a kenwood sub, and pioneer speakers.
What a great truck could not be more pleased with it. When I was shopping for a truck this sit really helped with alot of my questions. I also have a 95 tacoma 4x4 V6 5 speed manual with 180,000 miles. Can't go wrong with a Toyota. I hope this truck treats me as well as my Tacoma.

New member. This site is way cool!!
I have a 2003 Tundra access cab that is just the PERFECT truck.
I'm hoping the continued production of Japanese vehicles in the USA doesn't take on the habits of the big three-namely poor quality and planned obsolesence!! Toyota's have always been very highly rated; now I see that the consumer reporters have some negative things to say about the Tundra and the Camry. "Say it isn't so!!!" Toyota!! Don't ruin your perfect record!! We loyal owners are counting on you!!

Hi, I've been trolling around for a bit and I should introduce my self. I have a '00 Tundra Limited with 285/75/16 BFG AT's a 2" leveling kit and an add a leaf. I live in the hills around aspen, CO and we have lots of summer roads that I drive, Mostly to shuttle downhill bikes and snowmobiles. I will be upgrading my suspension mostly with the intent to smooth out those roads. Ideally I want a bit more sag as well as travel front and rear. I am always open to suggestions. Thanks, Thecriscokid

Hi Everyone. I upgraded to 2000 Tundra 4x4 TRD from 2000 Tacoma V6 4x4. Huge improvement in every way. I'm so glad I did. Mileage is not that different either. The only issue I'm having is trying to get an older Century topper I got off Craigslist to fit properly. This is my first experience with a topper. It seems it's just a little too long and the front corners don't sit down on the rails (either the front of the bed is bowed, or the topper is warped. I'm trying all kinds of things to get it torqued down but not having a lot of luck. It leaks in the front too, but I don't know from exactly where. Has anyone had similar problems with Century toppers on Tundras and is it common for the topper to extend off the back about a half inch or so? Thank you.

I'm a mechanic and I've had 2 Tundras, both get little use as I've got a full time company vehicle but I'm very pleased. I also have several early 60's Ford Galaxies and a Lincoln LS which is a fine RWD car. My latest is a 2004 Tundra double cab SR-5 which is nicely loaded with nearly every option except for leather and a sunroof. I was a buyer after my first test drive in an used '01 tRD xtra cab. My jaw dropped when I felt the power that Toyota had put together with the 4.7 V8. I bought the truck and owned it for 1 month. The new double cabs were out and the space was just better suited to the family though without the TRD package it felt bus like compared to the shorter one! The dealer was very good and I didn't lose a dime on the swap for the '04 in the early Imperial Jade Green which I always loved.
I thought that the new '04 was great but handling was less than perfect so I acquired a set of Bilstein take offs from ebay for only $150.00 for all 4 and then I also found the 5 disc JBL CD changer to go in place of the single CD. Now she's much better and I don't think that the tow package and tRD package are much different other than the Bilsteins. (I have my front take off struts with 20,000 miles if anyone needs a set. These are the standard non TRD type) I also bought a 2nd interior (seat covers) where the guy had gone to leather but the shade is light grey cloth where mine is dark grey. If anyone needs a nice set of light grey factory seat covers for a double cab then let me know.
I just recently acquired a set of the 17" snowflake wheels in the 2005 Sequoia Limited shade which is like a satin chrome. You hardly ever see them and they look great in the boxes. Does anyone have a tire recommendation for the 17" stockers? I'm in FL and the truck won't be off road much though it is 4WD. Our driving is mostly highway and heavy rain. I bought it for the New England snow but we solved that by moving here! I did tow a pretty heavy Haulmark trailer from Boston to Sarasota and I added Timbren rubber spring dampeners in place of the rubber bumpers and they make a huge difference towing, it was a real pleasure with a nice level ride.I was looking at the Michelin LTX/AS II. Any comments or recommended sizes other than the listed 265 65 17?
I had 2-3 more tech questions. I'm a mechanic full time on heavy equipment so I do have some background!
-Does the automatic trans torque converter have a drain plug to flush it out?
-Can the early 4.7 be easily upgraded to the variable valve timing system that the later 4.7 trucks had?
-Braking seems less than superior even with the fixed 4 piston calipers. I use my parking brake daily and only use Toyota friction. Any suggested upgrades?

www.tirerack.com for info and comparisons on tires. I got a set of Firestone Destinations LE from the base for a song and love them. BIG improvement over the stock tires in the snow. size 265-70-17. Highly rated. Lots of other good choices as well. bg

Hello, just found this site. My wife is on the road at 3:00am. She phoned with "honey, the check engine light just came on. What do I do?' We have an 02 Sienna with 100,000 miles, new timing belt, new plugs, new air filter all of which I put on. What to tell her?
