Re: Welcome to TundraSolutions.com! - New Members/Tundra Owners Introduce Yourself He
Hey guys and gals. I will hopefully soon be a fulltime member over here, as Saturday I plan on going to get a 2003 Tundra 2WD 3.4 Auto.
I currently have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee that has an electrical gremlin. I want back in a truck, and I think it is about time I go with a reliable brand.
The only thing that is holding me back is the fact that the truck has 136,000 miles, and the owner hasn't changed the timing belt??? That is a little past due. Viewing the car fax, most every scheduled maintenance was done, not sure why this was skipped, but if I get it, I plan on this being the first thing I do.
Any particular things to look for in these trucks?

Hello everyone,
I recently picked up my 01 Tundra 4x4 TRD to tow my pop-up camper. It's strictly a recreational vehicle as my wife and I have our Pathfinder LE and Subaru Legacy wagon as commuters. So far I love this truck and it rounds out our Colorado vehicle kit nicely.
Full size 4x4 truck (check)
4x4 SUV (check)
AWD Subaru wagon (check)
I've been searching this site daily since I bought my truck last month. So far I've used the information on this site for the rear seat mod and spark plug tutorial. I look forward to interacting with all you tundra owners. Take care and go Rammies! (Colorado State University for those outside of Colorado)

Hey guys! I own an 04 DC towing pkg Tundra. We have a family of Toyota's, always have and always will! Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know that I have many questions regarding my truck that I have had for 2 years. I'm in wholesale automotive parts and can honestly say "Astonman, DON'T DO IT!" Oxygen sensors are extremely easy to replace on the Tundra line. Most don't even require a special socket that has a slit in the side of it to replace *called obviously an oxygen sensor socket*. Find out what bank and sensor need's replacing, go to a store (auto value or equivalent) and buy them. You won't pay near that amount! Good luck. And if you need more info, I have traveled this road several times already with my '04!

Hey folks new on board so hang with me.
Here's a pic of my 2008 Christmas present I found in AL. Guy bought it new in 06. A 2006 Tundra DC X-SP with only 3,275 miles (That's what I said).
It's been garaged it's entire short life and still smelled new inside. When he backed it out of the garage, I thought I was going S*&t.
It still had the lether care tag hanging from the front passenger seat. We had already agreeded on the price so I/we test drove it came back and I handed him the check.
Love the truck. Had a Mazda B4000 before, but when I saw this I had to get it.
The radio has got to go. It's the chessey one that comes w/this model.
Questions:
Any suggestions on an aftermarket DIN radio w/CD someone may have used?
Also, want to drop the back end down even w/the front - any suggestions?
Thanks folks, looking forward to talking w/you guys.

Hi all:
Not sure if my last post made it: BUT I NEEDED SOME HELP ON A NEW PURCHASE...(or un_purchase)
At any rate, I'm new to TUNDRAS, as I only started looking for one a week ago (was originally looking for 7.3 l powerstroke F250, that I am very familiar with)...as I just decided that the TUNDRA is more than capable for doing my general purpose 4wheel truck needs.
I finally wrote up a deal on a used 2004 Access cab 4x4 yesterday, and have until tomorrow to back out...112k miles, clean one owner carfax....body has minor nicks , lone ding between passenger door bottom and fenderwell (looks like someone backed over a parking lot boulder.
No drivability issues..Its solid, strong, quiet and slipless and firm on shifts.. Transfer case nicely locks up and releases..Nice ride
Concerns: I was able to haggle on the price because I saw NO sign that the Timing Belt/Water Pump were replaced as needed at 90k...Heck the serpentine belt has minor check marks on it , and appears to possibly be original. As usual, the dealer had no records..not even an owners manual.
I let him know that thats going to be an easy $600 to $1000 I'm going to have to dump in ASAP
Also , all courtesy lights ng ..doors dome etc ...10amp fuse blows instantly.
Seatbelt light flashes constantly, and no beeping....Won't clear whatever.
I USED THESE TO GET US DOWN TO $9000 , WHICH SEEMED FAIR TO ME...
ISSUES I HAVE FOUND TODAY:
1: NO DOOR OPEN IDIOT LIGHT (don't even know where its supposed to be on cluster)
2: REMOTE UNLOCK WORKS FINE.....REMOTE LOCK ONLY GIVES LONG BEEP...NO ACTUATORS..(BUT YOU CAN LOCK UNLOCK ACTUATORS FROM DOOR SWITCHES)
3: NO BEEPER ON DOOP OPEN OR HEADLITES LEFT ON
4: ALL COURTESY/DOME LITES NG ..BUT DASH LIGHTING AND TIMED CARGO LIGHT OK.(I OPENED UP ALL BULB LENSES TO LOOK FOR SHORTED SOCKETS...NTF)
5: TRIP A AND TRIP B ODOMETERS ZERO OUT AS SOON AS YOU TURN OFF VEHICLE (UNLESS FOR SOME SCREWY REASON THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT??)
I AM 140 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND MY SHOP...COULD ONLY FIND A HAYNES MANUAL, WITH NO REAL SCHEMATICS FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL.....
I DON'T MIND DIGGING AROUND AND ISOLATING A SHORT IN WIIRING..CAN ISOLATE WITH A GOOD DIAGRAM, AND HAVE DONE SO ON MANY FRIENDS VEHICLES.
BUT ...I DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO BACK AWAY FROM THIS
ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE LIKE THIS OR SET OF DIAGS TO LOOK AT???
IF ITS BEEN REALLY HACKED AND HAS A RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONTROLLER AND LAMP CONTROLLER FRIED....AND SOMETHING WITH THE ODOMETER PORTION OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HOSED......HE'S GONNA HAVE TO COME DOWN LOWER, OR JUST BACK OUT OF THE DEAL...

Good Day.
I'm Retired, and 71 years old. Live in east Texas, and just set back and enjoy life.
Having become disgruntled with VW's I picked up a 2005 Tundra SR5
with 42K miles on it.
Great so for, BUT, a Couple of odd things happened in the last three
weeks.
The first was early one morning I backed our of the drive, mo rush, just normal and took off down the street. I seemed like it took it a long time to shift, and I just noted it and went on about my normal business.
The other evening, left town going home and I had it on Cruise, and was going home, as it went up this small incline maybe 3/10th of a mile, it steped down to the next lower gear, and after I got to the crest on the hill it just stayed in that gear for maybe a half of a mile.
I thought that was a little strange, but, everything else seams normal.

New here, sold my 05 colorado 4cyl to my son to get a real truck! 2001 105k mi Tundra access cab that can tow a off road racing vehicle to the desert races. It pulls that around like it isnt even there. I have had it for a year now and put 15k mi since the new timing belt/chain was replaced by the dealer.
Sorry I didnt get a double cab as back seat passengers complain about the leg room and lack of seat angle. I hate having to open the large doors prior to the access doors. Hoping that by the end of this year i can trade it in for a dual cab.

02-02-09...Just found this sight..I love my truck..I know i'm not the only one...My first tundra was an 03 2wd reg cab with a 5 speed six...after a leveling kit and some 33's, i could go anywhere..i have always liked a long wheel base truck because i could buy 8ft lumber and shut the tailgate..Now i own a 05 2wd reg cab lwb ofcourse...This one is diff though, its got a V8 [4.7], and more weight..The first thing i did to my new one was, make it my own...My first order were some sliders by demello-offroad..120. wall sq tubing..Next i had to get some shocks...I got the swayaway racerunners 2.5 coilovers...The only bad thing about a reg-cab is that you have no storage...Being from the south i didn't want to do the normal redneck thing, and go get a massive diomond plate toolbox..So i had one built from pro-tech..The tool box is flush with the bed rails..16 5/8 inch tall, and smooth aluminium...I have to say that this truck is one of the tightest trucks i've ever drivin..Tightest meaning snug and sound...My favorite comment ever was from a guy in a parking lot, as he was walking towards his giant diesel, he said, That's a good looking plain ole truck..I felt great because he could not stop starring...Well the 2.5 coilovers are half way extended...I now have plans to get new upper control arms from camburg or total caos...I will try my darndest to shove some 35's under it. Not real sure how to do it..Don't care to show off my fram rails..Maybe i can get the full 4 inches out of my shocks, and some 1 inch blocks for the rear...Well if someone read thus far and see anyway that i could improve my plain ole truck, or helpful hints please fill free...Thanks, Christian....P.S Mississippi mud rocks..

Hey man, That 03 is a great pic...Don't worry about the miles, it's a 400.000 mile truck..and the fact that there's any record of maint, is awesome. As far as the timing belt, have a mech look at the truck first...Anyhow, 190 hp is all you need in that model..I can tell you yhat it is ready for any upgrade you can throw at it...P.S..hope it's a reg-cab, and hope it's you first. ur gunna love it...christian..

Hey Sir,... What i like to do is when i first drive it in the morning and i'm in drive i let it shift its self from second to third without giving it any gas by then your fluids will have mixed prop..If you let your truck warm up a little more on cold mornings it may feel better sooner..i am from ms though..haha..P.S beware of cruise control. On hilly rides you may want to take it out of cruise...christian.

Hey man, I would not recommend it if you have over 75.000 miles...First off take it to a dealer where you can talk with an exp... mech...You may just want to upgrade the quality of your oil..christian..
