I live in a beach town where parking is tight and you have to do a lot of close parallel parking. Can it distinguish when I am closer than about an inch (i.e. if the sound stays on when closer than several inches, I won't know when I am really close which is the norm when parking around here).

Also, I am not clear on where it mounts but if it mounts below the bumper, doesn't it become pretty vulnerable when you are offroad?
