It took my system a while to adjust after installing mine. It definitely roars when you romp on it, but, my butt dyno is unsure if there's any boost in power among the low end. Then again, it doesn't feel any worse either. I seemed to notice that after the install the tach seemed to climb more rapidly and freely than before, but I have no empirical data to back that up other than my own mental metronome.
Keep in mind too about the heat shield...while you're actually moving, you have quite a bit of air blowing through the compartment...the shield doesn't have to be air-tight to be effective at that point. Any heat shield is gonna be fairly useless when you're sitting about idling...even one that's sealed from the compartment is still going to absorb and radiate heat at that point.
