Whats your truck's mileage?

Sounds like a transmission problem to me, although I could be wrong..

Also, an MIL (Engine check light) can mean more than one thing. You need to get your code read at Autozone or something. I'm sure other members can help you here on that one. Try PM'ing nhparrot, he can help you too.
