Just a follow-on note... If the Toyota factory parts necessary for the compass and thermometer functions are just 'way too expensive... Wayfinder (? - I think that's the name) makes aftermarket digital compass units, and in the upper end of their product line you can get an external temp feature. I believe their most expensive units carry MSRP's in the $100 - 125 range (cheaper on
ebay, of course).
