I put RAS in my Tundra 2 years ago & it's great. If you follow the instructions that come with the kit, it's a snap to put in. I don't have alot of fancy equipment and it took me about 2 hrs. I've never had or heard of the rod getting bent. As far as ride, I really didn't feel any difference. I noticed a bigger difference in ride (harder) when I put the Bilsteins in. When the truck has no weight in it, it sits about 2" higher in the back. If you put that heavy cap on, it will probably drop a fraction. I'm not a big fan of air bags, so the RAS seemed like a good alternative. So far I've been more than happy with the performance. It sounds like it's gone up in price though.....I only paid $147 cdn.
Good Luck.
