Why are M14 type rifles So much more $ in the USA?

A new Springfield M1A rifle will set you back about $1500.00 + here in the states.
A superior version of the M14 rifle sells for $399.00 in Canada and can not be imported to the US

Sorry - Back on topic:

Can you get yourself south of the border and drive home in a new Tundra?
