It's been a while since I've been in this forum. I initially joined when I had my 1st gen Toyota Tundra SR5. I have also owned a 1995 4Runner LE but had given it to my sister to use while she couldn't afford to have her own vehicle. Well, lets just say she ran it to the ground and I'll be taking it back from her. I haven't seen it nor ridden in it yet but from what she had described, when pressing on the brake pedal it progressively sinks and fades. Sounds like either air in the hydraulics or possibly brake booster since the truck is over 10 yrs old now. I'm planning on restoring this vehicle to good working order, and with that I'm planning on possibly doing a mild lift so that I can fit 33s on it.
As soon as I have more details on what is wrong with it, I will post back.
Hey what's up Mel. Cali is hot and humid. Other than that I can't really complain. Looks like I'm gonna need your help fixing this 4Runner. I'll call you and maybe you can give me some pointers over the phone.
I had some spare time this afternoon and was able to startup the truck. The exhaust sounds like ****! It idles fine but once I put it in gear, it starts idling like a harley, like its about to stall but it doesn't stall out. I back up the truck and nearly hit a wall because when I stepped on the brake pedal, the brakes didn't stop the car. The pedal feels normal, and doesn't progressively get soft and sink into the floor board like my sister said. I think the brake booster is out. I'm gonna pull the wheels out tomorrow morning and inspect the pads. Anyhow, I'm gonna try to see what the deal is with the brakes, I don't wanna take a chance, try and drive it to Autozone to have the ECU read for codes and end up crashing because I can't stop the truck on time.
This is how to pull codes on your 95 without a scan tool or going to an auto parts store.

Good to see ya MEL, missed ya last dinner.

I tested the brake booster over the weekend using the brake booster operational test documentation that Mustang67408 sent me. Sadly, it failed the tests. To further confirm this, I took it to a brake specialist around the corner from me. The brake booster is shot! I'm gonna have to replace it.
At least it is just the booster. I had someone come in one time with similar symptoms. Turned out that someone filled it with ATF instead of brake fluid. They ended up with a new brake system. MC, lines, hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders.
Once this is done, I still have to replace the straight pipe that my sister had installed instead of the catalytic converter. She really fk'd up my truck. Once the cat is back in, I can have this truck smogged and re-registered. Then I can address the leaking front transfer case, blown shocks, and bald tires. Then I can start working on the interior.
