This is a discussion thread titled "SR5 or Sport?", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Hi everyone,
I test drove the SR5 and the Sport today and am planning on purchasing mine Fri. but am undecided in which model to get. I am open to any advice anyone can give me. Thanks DJ
It really depends what you're looking for.
When I drove both, the SR5 had options that the Sport didn't and the Sport had options the SR5 didn't. Make sense?
I went with the Sport because of the hood scoop, auto dimming/compass rear view mirror, SAT option in the factory radio and the interior/exterior color is what I was looking for. A few other options on the Sport but can't recall at this time.
Good luck in your decision and be sure to let us know which one you went with.
BTW, pictures would be a bonus!

Both models I tested were pretty much alike as far as options, but great point on the interior color, charcoal would be a plus. I am not sure tan or gray would work. Outside features of the sport are nice looking (hood scoop, rockrails, nicer roof rack) but rides are different also. What is your experience with the ride in the sport.
Can't remember if the SR5 had the REAS suspension but my Sport does. I really like it and it handles well off-roading; limited roll and corners well.
Take the SR5 out again and see how it handles on sharp corners/curves. Look at the shocks on the SR5 and see if it has hydraulic lines attached. If so, it has the REAS suspension.

I've got the sport w/Xreas & it handles very well. I like how it doesn't have body roll but still rides smooth. Corners extremely well. Hood scoop looks cool & is out of the way with regards to the drivers view. My Tacoma's hood scoop sits much higher & blocks the driving view at times.
Never ridden in an SR5. I guess it depends on price.

The XREAS suspension is standard on the Sport and an option on the Limited. It is not offered on an SR5.
I second all of the comments on the Sport Edition. I've had my Sport for about a month and the ride quality, to me, is great. I'll admit that ride was one of my biggest concerns considering I went from a 99 Honda Accord EX V6 to the 4Runner, but so far I'm really pleased. It's great around town and on the highway too, it will be some time before I take it off road though.
Now, I was dead set on the Sport Edition so I haven't driven an SR5 or Limited to judge the ride quality.
Also, the hood scoop does not obstruct my vision at all. I'm an average 5'5 woman and this too worried me, but it is a non-issue.
While I think the dark charcoal interior looks great, I opted for gray leather. It's much easier to clean when my dog rides along.
,
Opted for white with the charcoal interior, sunroof, am/fm 6 cd sat., rear spoiler, sport plus pkg., daytime running lights, 3 spoke leather steering wheel with audio and cruise control (tilt and telescope), carpet floor/cargo mats, wheel locks, tow pkg., and all the other normal stuff. Just love it! Everything about it is great. Will post a pic soon.
Hopefully soon will be getting a Rhino hitch step and a bull bar. Not sure on brand of bull bar... any suggestions? Looking for something not over-powering and easy to install.
