Default p0136 Code in 2004 4runner V6

My 2004 spit out the p0136 code a couple of months ago, which is for the bank 1 sensor 2 Oxygen Sensor. I went to NAPA and bought a replacement sensor (Bosch). However, the light came back on after about 20 miles of driving, so i figured the sensor was not the problem, so i put the original one back on. I then took it to a local mechanic who had a detailed diagnostic, which read the output voltage of the sensor.... 0 volts, nothing. So now I am wondering how to fix the problem. Specifically, i am wondering...

A) if the ECU is not getting any voltage return from the sensor, then its probably a wiring issue?

b.) If i bring this to the dealer, should this be under warranty (55K miles on 4runner). I am wondering if the problem is not the 02 sensor itself, but somewhere in between does this qualify for the 8yr/80K emissions warranty

C.) What are the chances of the problem in fact being a bad 02 sensor (also, the replacement one being bad).

those Bosch aftermarket sensors seem to not work well in Toyota. Stick to OE sensors and I would think that it should be covered under warranty.

Oxygen sensors are covered under the 36/36 warranty. However, RobXS is correct about the Bosch sensors. Pick up an OEM part and I bet that fixes your problem.

Alright, I purchased an OE sensor (denso) and reset the computer. After driving it to work and back the light came back on. So that is a total of 3 different O2 sensors. think its safe to say the o2 sensor is not the problem. Getting frustrated here, think im gonna have to go to the stealer.

You did replace the sensor after the Cat, right? That should be the sensor bank 1 sensor 2. Here is a good page that will tell you alot about the sensors http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h37.pdf

89465–35710 ---- B1S2

89465–35700--- B2S2

Is this the part number you used?

There is a TSB for updated 02 sensors and this is the new numbers.
I attached a copy of the TSB.

TOYOTA also advised us to change both sensors if EITHER code popped up.
Use the TSB part numbers for the sensors.

I brought the 4runner to the dealership and they told me the p0136 code is for the passenger side post catalytic o2 sensor. I thought bank 1 sensor 2 is the drivers side post cat sensor, not the passenger side? Anyone know for sure?

Bank 1 for a V6 is the passenger side

Bank 1 for a V8 is the drivers side.

Look at them closely, the PART NUMBERS are imprinted on them. If they are the same = yes
If they are different , then i would say = no

CHECK the plugs (connectors) and the wire length to see if it is the same.
I think they will interchange, but cant be 100% until TUESDAY (going away for a few days and wont be back to work until then)

Okay, replaced the sensor, check engine light is out but the VSC trac/VSC off light is still on. I have disconnected the batterty to ensure the computor reset. Anyone know how to reset the VSC lights?

Clear the DTC.
(1) Using SST, connect the terminals Tc and CG of the
DLC3.
SST 09843-18040
(2) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(3) Clear DTC stored in ECU by depressing the brake
pedal 8 or more times within 5 sec. ( Just keep pumping until light flashes)
(4) Check that the ABS warning light and VSC warning
light shows the normal code.
(5) Remove the SST from the DLC3.

SST = JUMPER WIRE

That should work, just dont force it into the connector and spread the contacts in the connector.
That's why I like to use a spare piece of wire, but the paper clip should work as long as your careful. If you spread the contacts a SCAN TOOL later on may not make proper contact to read any codes, if a propblem develops.
