4RunnerGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota 4Runner.
This is a discussion thread titled "05 4Runner SR5 tire size", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Gotta get new tires this month. Called Toyota to ask about tire size... said if I get any bigger than factory specs, I will void the warranty... messed up right? well, that warranty will run out in the next 3 months anyway, so no big deal. Its a 2005 SR5 4X4 V8. question is: if I get bigger tires, besides affecting handling, are there any adverse effects from putting larger tires(will i be messing up the Transfer Case, locking diff, 4WD etc). The lady at Toyota stated the warranty would be void because "larger tires will add stress to the frame of the truck". Doesnt sound right to me... i mean its bigger tires, not Mex'ed out wheel spacers. Also, without any mods... what is the biggest I can fit without rubbing... hoping the answer is 31 x 10.50 b/c I have a set of Dueler M/T that are brand new. If anyone thinks that the best idea is to stay with the factory specs... please let me know... wont hurt my feelings, too much anyway. Thanks for any help...
"said if I get any bigger than factory specs, I will void the warranty" was this a dealer? It's false.
they cannot void the warranty on a vehicle strictly because you put something on it. They would have to prove that whatever you added was the reason whatever part broke.
that would be awesome if you are right... the person that told me this was a toyota rep i got on the phone from the number in the drivers manual. My father is the GM at the dealership I purchased the truck from, and noone there had any idea if it would void it or not, and no one could tell me what size i could fit... any ideas on what size tire maxes out the front wheel well?
I've got the 17" wheels on my 07 4runner. Just put some 265/70/17 k/o's on our's & they fill the wheel well quite nicely & no rubbing.
I basically went from 265/65/17 to the above size. Only 1/2 a size larger but 1" taller.
It will only void the warranty for the parts that the modification can directly be related to. If you put larger tires on and the radiator leaks, they are obviously not related. If you put larger tires on and your ball joints fail, then they can deny that claim.
Thanks for the help... I think I am going to go with the 265/70/17 since it looks like the 31 x 10.50's wont fit. I will deal with the warranty issues as they arrise, but i might just keep my factory tires and put them back on if I have any warranty issues that are worth the trouble...
