Default 4WD Hi and 4WD LO + VSC flahing in dash?

So the wife calls me today at work and tells me her 05 4Runner is acting crazy. We had our first snow of the year and she used 4wd this morning and all was fine. Later this afternoon she was driving around and got to a spot where the road was slick and she went to put it in 4wd (she was doing 35-40mph). The 4wd indicator in the instrument display just kept flashing and flashing and then all of a sudden the 4Lo started flashing also and the VSC came on. She said that at the end of last winter the 4wd indicator would flash for a lot longer than it used to before 4wd would finally engage. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? The truck is a littl over 2 years old an dhas never been to the dealership and I hate to deal with it, kinda hoping theres a TSB or something for this problem.

There are specific instructions on how to engage the 4 wheel drive correctly. I'd have to look im my manual but if im correct, I believe that it says you have to be going a certain speed like 3 MPH or so before you hit the switch. I think switching to 4 wheel drive at 30-40 miles an hour wasnt a good idea.

Talked to a couple Toyota Techs I know and actually I found out that it was just a glitch that can happen when things are a little bound up (road a little too dry) when engaging 4wd. It actually tells you in the manual that you can shift into 4wd at less than 62MPH I believe and we use it in that fashion all the time. You get on the highway get up to 45-50 mph and see that the highway has that shiny ice glare to it, reach over and turn it to 4wd HI and in she goes. We use the 4wd at highway speeds all the time too risky when its slick to run in 2wd.

Ok cool. I knew it said something about what speed you can be going to shift into 4 hi. I just didn't think it was 62. I was too lazy to go get my manual.
