4RunnerGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota 4Runner.
This is a discussion thread titled "What's the Good thing About a VVT-I V6", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Gentlemen,
1st time poster, 1st time 4runner owner. I'm a recovering Land Rover Discovery Owner!
I'm new to the whole Toyota way of engineering but bought because of their stellar reputation.
What's the deal w/ the Variable Value Timing w/ Intelligence engines? Never had any experience with them. I like they way my rig drives though, very smooth
also, how much wrenching do you guys do on your 4runners outside of mods & such? I had just paid of my Disco and then dropped another grand for parts...it was time to sell. As much as I love those trucks, they are NEEDY!
Anyway, I hope to have several reliable years w/ my 4runner.
thanks for any input!

As far as the wrenching on the VVT-I V6, there's almost no wrenching needed. My '05 Tacoma (now my pop's) has 75k miles on it. Not a single problem with it. The only part that's been replaced was the windshield wiper motor just because it was noisy, and that was under warranty. The only thing close to wrenching on the engine is changing the spark plugs.

actually, I know this for a fact on the V8 models, I assume its the same for V6, but I think they come with iridium plugs (100k plugs) so I dont think you even have to worry about those either...

I have the 4.7 V8 now in my Runner. I can say that the V8 does indeed have the iridium plugs, but the V6 has std. plugs. They need to be changed every 30k miles.
