Unhappy 4Runner Brake light warning

Hello and Thank you in advance for any help I might receive on this.
I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner 4x4 and it has been great. I noticed that when I shift(it's a manual) the brake light on the dash comes on for a split second. It only does it when I shift from 1st to second gear. I am puzzled and do not even begin to know where to look. The brakes are fine and there is no mushiness in the pedal. This may have to be something that I learn to live with unless someone out there has come across this problem and knows the easy fix. Thanks again in advance. -MATT-

check your brake fluid. Most likely you are are tripping the low level sensor as you shift. Top it off and you will be fine. You may also want to check your brakes while you are at it. The fluid level tends to drop as your pads wear.

Thanks for the response. I pulled the wheels and checked the brakes both front and rear and they are both fine. I also topped off the brake fluid. Then I took it for a drive around the block and the light did not come on when I shifted.Hurray! Now for the bad news. When I drove out this morning it did it again. I can't help but think that it is cold weather related. It has been unseasonably cold in Tucson lately,High 20's overnight and thats when I notice it in the morning. My buddy asked if maybe I wasn't catching the brake pedal while I was shifting. The answer is no and How would that make the brake warning light come on? Still puzzled and still looking. -MATT-

Then...is it possibly your parking brake?
Try and keep pressure on the parking brake as you drive to make sure it's not that, move it around slightly and see if the light comes on and off. If you use your parking brake a lot, which I'm assuming you do since it's a manual, the switch tends to wear out and become more sensitive.
See if this works.
If not, what Rob suggested should do the trick.
