Default 2001 4Runner SR5 Supercharged: Need Intake info

Help!!!

I currently have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with a TRD Supercharger and I really want to improve the performance by adding more airflow. Part of that modification includes adding a bigger, high performance intake that will work with my setup. My mechanic uses K&M intakes, but I hear they don't work well with 4Runners with the TRD Supercharger, although that is definitely unconfirmed information.

I heard there was an official TRD intake, but I cannot find one that goes with a 4Runner/Tacoma anywhere. I have researched, and including K&M, there are a small handful of performance intakes that go with a 4Runner with the TRD supercharger, and I don't know which one is the best one to use.

Which one should I get???!!!!

You really need to look at Gaget's site. He is one of the most knowledgable people when it comes to supercharging the 3.4. He posts here from time to time so he might see this or you can go to his web site. GadgetOnline.

I ended up calling Toyota directly and spoke to the TRD department... and they said that it is not good to put any intake other than the stock Toyota one because it will throw off the air-fuel ratio and actually decrease performance.

With the s/c you are likely running too lean already so any better airflow is just going to lean things out even more (unless you are running a 7th injector or other fuel mods). If you want to push your luck then pull of your air intake elbow that goes into your fender and then replace your air filter with an amsoil one that fits in your stock airbox.

Gadget really is the guru on s/c stuff for the 3.4 so get his advice. I've had my tacoma s/c ed for about 8 years and he has been around nearly since the beginning.

You don't need any more air. The TRD supercharger I bought for my Tundra V8 came with a warning sticker not to add an aftermarket intake or my warranty would be voided. Sounds like you could damage the motor by doing so.

Thanks guys....I ended up talking to Toyota and they said the same thing, do not add more air because that will actually decrease performance.

Update:

With the cost of gas, and the fact that the supercharger doesn't do enough to justify reduced fuel economy and forcing me to use premium unleaded, I really want to just remove the TRD Supercharger and drive my truck as a regular Toyota 4Runner....... Can anyone tell me what is involved in that and how hard it is to do?

Thanks
