Default 03 4Runner - Rear Hatch Button

Hi Folks - My rear hatch release button has failed. I have done a few searches, but so far no success on finding a replacement. Do you have a suggestion on where I can order the part online? If not - I'll just call the dealer.

I also want to say Hi, and to offer a quick review of my 4Runner. I have a Black 2003 4Runner with the V6, 17" tires, and a few other options. Otherwise it's a fairly basic SR5 - and basic in this case seems very well equipped to me. So far this has been a trouble free truck. Currently I have about 140k miles, and it's still tight as a drum. The button I'm posting about is the 1st item that has failed on this vehicle.

This is the only Toyota I own - we also have a 01 Maxima (130k miles), a 03 Chevy Silverado (80k miles) and my pet - a 2005 Mini. I can honestly say there isn't a lemon in the bunch. All have been well maintained and very trouble free.

Thanks to all for any help in finding the parts for the 4Runner.

Sincerely,
Steve

I have a 2003 4Runner and there is no rear hatch release button on my SR5. I don't see one in the owners manual either.

I think he means the rear window button.

Does your rear window work when you use in the interior switch?

Take the remote completely apart and see if there's any dirt in there. on the contacts.

Thanks for the responses - the button I'm referring to is under the plastic fascia on the rear hatch. It's the button you press to release the rear hatch and let it open up. The window button, and the rear window operate fine - I just can't get my hatch to pop open anymore.

I believe the button operates the electric motor that release the hatch, the same motor that tightens it down when you shut the hatch.

Hopefully I'm being clear,

Thanks again,
Steve

I believe you are referring to the handle outside the vehicle??? It's probably a dealer only item.

It sure is a dealer item - so I've scheduled it for a trip in on Monday. After almost 5 years and 140k miles this is the 1st trip in for a part failure... Not Bad at all.

Thanks for checking in - I appreciate the response.

Well, problem solved. It was the wiring harness to the rear hatch that failed. It wasn't a cheap fix, but it is back in business.
