Default 4x4 2001 runner

So i dont remember if i have asked this or just did some looking, But my wife got a 01 4runner and she got a 2 wheel drive one. Well now she barly drives it and said i can do anything i want to it. HEHEHEHE now for the fun part...... I wanna do a 4 wheel conversion to the thing. How do-able is this if at all? Would it just be a simple go to the junk yard and find a new front end or is it more of a " This is going to cost me $10,000 " thing? Any input would be great. If i dont do this then i guess i will just supercharge it.

Thanks ahead of time,
Moe

It should be pretty straight forward swaping the parts and the computer. You should be able to find all the parts in a salvage yard or search the other Toyota forums and find someone that is doing a solid axle conversion and you can get most of the parts for next to nothing. I haven't seen many 4 runner 2 to 4wd conversions (probably because of the small number of 2wd 4 runners), but there are lots of people who have gone from 2 to 4wd with Tacomas.

Thanks for the reply, Havnt had time to check on here due to work. Anyways so is it basicly all the same? I mean will everything just drop right in or do i have to make a considerable amount of modifications to make everything fit nicely? Also i am curious if the 96-04 ( i believe thats the correct years ) have the power 4x4 and not the standered? What i mean by that is, is it a button on the dash or am i cutting out the floor board?

Thanks again for your help.

i would sell it and buy another one with 4wd. If you are going to be doing the work yourself and know what your doing go for it b/c its gonna take some work and cost $$$ if your not doing the work
