Default new to the boards... I have a starter question

Hello, I am new to the boards and have a question about the starter and starter solenoid. I have a '96 4 runner and am getting just a click when I go to start it. I am thinking it is a starter problem. Is the starter easy to take out? I did some brief checking on the internet and read that to replace a starter, you have to take off the manifold? Is that true? Can any of you direct me to a link here in the boards for starter replacement steps? thanks in advance.

The starter is relatively easy to remove. You can actually rebuild the starter yourself by replacing the copper contacts (bought at a local dealership for about $25.00). The reason you are just getting the click is most likely because the contacts have developed a flat spot over time and are sticking. There's no need to remove the manifold.

Here's a link to starter contact replacement instructions, it's from an older vehicle but the starters haven't changed much
