Problem --> VSC TRAC & TRAC OFF lights
Vehicle --> 04 4Runner Sport Edition (2wd, V6) with only 51K miles.
It's a welcome improvement over the 97 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT especially at the pump.
The VSC TRAC & TRAC OFF lights came on after a visit from the dealership today to get my remotes programmed and keys made.
I have read some posts about some causes of the VSC TRAC light but nothing to pin-point why I would have the problem after getting keys made and remotes programmed.

Any ideas?

Hey Dan,
Go to your local autoparts store (AutoZone, Advanced, Pepboys, etc.) and borrow their OBD2 code reader, it's free. Plug it in to the OBD2 port, read the trouble codes (get diagnosis) and write down everything the screen says. Post a reply here with what you get from the OBD2 code reader. I'll see if I can figure it out.
It's probably a bad O2 sensor. It may be covered under your factory warranty. A warranty that's still valid too!

Similar thing happened when I brought my 04 in.
Mine came on after assessing an electronic problem and can be easily resolved by bringing it back in. They'll be able to reset it. It shouldn't cost you anything, nor should it take more than a couple minutes, as it was caused by the visit and the programming you had done. Don't know if they plug it in to their code reader to reset or if they undo the battery for 5 minutes to reset. Might want to ask and save a trip if it is just the battery method.

Code reader, fuse, or battery disconnect, all can be done without going to the dealer. And all free.

At the same time I picked it up from the dealer after getting my remotes programmed and keys made, I managed to pick up a nail in the tire.
I am not too sure if that had anything to do with the VSC light or not.
I went back to the dealer today and picked it up about an hour or two later. They just recalibrated it and fixed my leaky tire (for free).
What bothers me is what caused the light to come on and that fact that the dealer couldn't tell me what triggered the light. They said something about a hard skid. I agree that might trigger the light but, that didn't happen while I was in the dealship parking lot. After all, the VSC light and the low tire light were noticed when I drove out into the street.
I am getting the idea from other posts in other threads that the VSC system is a little sensitive and probably more inconvenience than a necessity. So, I will use the advice to reset the light in the future.
This happened to me after taking my 03 in for its yearly state inspection. To reset the lights perform the steps starting on page 7 of the attached TSB. I used a paper clip to perform the short and open between terminals Ts and CG of DLC3 4 times or more within 8 seconds.
