This is a discussion thread titled "99 4runner engine dying while in park", within the 4Runner forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I have a 99 4runner limited 3.4. I was having starting problems where i would turn the key and it would crank for a few seconds but did'nt start. When i would put the key on the second click for a few seconds before cranking, it seemed to always start. I was thinking fuel pressure regulator?? I did some searches and cleaned the maf and k&n filter and throttle body and it seems to be better.
Another problem that it did before the cleaning and now is when i have the ac on and car in park the idle gets really low and it dies. It has only done this about 3 times in the past month. any ideas. could the fuel pressure regulator be causing both these problems. Thanks for any input.
You need to clean your idle control valve as well. I had to clean both the NAF sensor and the ICV about every 25k when I had the TRD (aka K&N) filter on my '01 3.4l Tacoma. Here are some posts that I made over at TTORA
i cleaned the maf and that idle control valve like you said. while i had the intake off i did the deckplate mod as well. Well so far it has started up great every time, hasnt stalled while in park and has more punch/acceleration. Thanks again
