Default Looks like high mileage...

I have a nine-month-old 2008 4Runner that turned 20,000 miles yesterday. I don't forsee significantly less usage over the life of the car.

Should I purchase an extended warranty? 6 years/100k miles quoted from my Toyota dealer at $795.

Thoughts? Options?

It is a gamble. Do you think that you will have more than $1000 ($795 + deductible) repairs in 4 years before you cross the 100k? That is what it comes down to. I would like to think that you wouldn't need it, but there is always a possibility. Toyotas are known for reliability which is why the warranty is a lot less than what you would pay on an Exploer or Tahoe. I would probably skip it and put that $795 into the oil speculation market. You are bound to make more money.

You're probably right. I got the amount wrong though. I looked at my notes and it was $895, not $795. No deductible though.

I'm one that will take a vehicle back for a squeak, rattle, headlight adjustment, etc., and am more worried that I'll be on my own pretty quickly before some of those things begin to happen in full force.

I think you're right. I need to buy some of the $5 Ford stock, in anticipation of the eventual recovery...or something...

thanks

That's a great price on an extended warranty, but ONLY if it's a Toyota factory warranty. Skip the aftermarket stuff.

I wouldn't think you would have any trouble with the drive train. It's typically the other stuff that breaks down though. My 06 DC had the homelink button break under warranty and the part was 900.00. I just purchased an 02 Camry with only 45k miles and I bought the extended Toyota warranty which gives me 5years/100k warranty. The cost was 895.00. I was worried about things like power window motors, seat motors, sunroof motors, things like that. I have no doubts about the engine/transmission/rear end. It's the little things that will break you though..
