Default Delaying Timing Belt Work

Hello

Just joined the forum after reading lots of good stuff. Did a search on timing belts and read 49 threads, but still am wondering how long some owners have gone w/o having done the timing belt+water pump work. We have not yet with 97k on our 99 4Runner V6 2WD Limited.

I read somewhere that one might easily get 120k+.

Also, what is the ballpark dealership ticked price for this job?

Thanks

Dealer prices could go anywhere from $700-1200. The parts are about $150 or so or belt, water pump, pulley. You can probably find a local shop that would do the job for about half of what the dealer charges. Waiting a few months probably isn't a big risk. At worst if it breaks, it will just leave you stranded. With that engine design the valves won't hit the pistons if the belt breaks.
