Default 4runner help

Hi everyone! I need to know if my 98 4runner engine with 98000 miles 5VZ-FE is a non-interference engine.I haven't replaced the water pump and timing belt yet and I can't seem to get a straight answer. The runner is in perfect condition and I would like to keep it that way.If the belt breaks will the valves get into the pistons or not? 3400 four cam 24 engine Thanks for any advice Bigred4

It is a non-interference engine. No problem with valve damage. If the belt breaks, you'll just stop, instantly and most likely somewhere not very convenient. When I replaced my belt at 155,000 km it still looked good. I think the replacement interval suggested by Toyota is pretty conservative, but with timing belts they can look OK until they break.

Thank you Eric the Red for reply! That is what I was hoping to hear. That is what I was told yesterday at my local dealership by the service manager. He said it was definitely a non interference engine and no internal damage would occur. I intend to continue driving until the waterpump springs a leak and then I will bite the bullet! Thanks again for your response and help!!! Bigred
