Default Problems with 4LO in 2004 4Runner SR5

Hello, I'm selling my 2004 4runner, and one of the interested parties wanted to test the 4x4. I've used the 4x4 4HI many times (snow, etc.) and he wanted to test the 4LO as well (and rear diff lock).

The 4HI works fine.

The 4HI and rear diff locked works fine.

The 4HI and rear diff unlocked (normal) works fine.

The 4LO just beep and flashes on the dash with either the rear diff unlocked or locked. I've tried to put it in park, drive, low, it just flashes and beeps.

My question is, am I missing something? Does it seem something is broken? What is the most normal problem that could result in this behavior?

Thanks in advance.

you didn't say neutral. over the years, i've found that
you have to let the vehicle "relax" for it to go into certain "modes" of
the 4x4. be at a full stop. put it in neutral and let off the brake. push
buttons. go wheeling! yspert

Default Re: Problems with 4LO in 2004 4Runner SR5

Worked like a charm. Put it in N, then put it in 4LO, was almost instant. Even was able to turn on the DAC and drive a little, of course, kind of felt like driving a space craft thru the reaches of space (yeah.. like I would know what that is like) - but it all worked!

Thanks for the info!
