ask someone face to face to explain to you what it means
to have a one wheel drive, two wheel drive, three wheel drive,
and a four wheel drive.
then find someone with a 4x4 and tow strap and find dirt.
then just take your time and start in 1x4 and work up from there.
go into each "mode" and feel the difference. yspert

You probably won't use it much, but 4 low is when you're into the fun stuff

H4 is for regular driving most of the time. L4 uses a lower gear in the transfer case and is used where you want to go slower but still kep the engine revs up, eg very rough gravel roads.
The centre diff should be unlocked all the time, except in really rough off road situations, or maybe deep snow. Never drive with it locked on pavement.
VSC = vehicle stability control. It is designed to keep the vehicle going where it thnks you want to go. Mine turns off automatically when the centre diff is locked. You only really need to turn it off in extrene off road situations.

As for the gears just keep it in D unless you are going down steep hills. Then you can go down to 3 or even 2 for more engine braking. D lets the transmission use all 4 gears; 3 limits it to 1st, 2nd or 3rd; 2 limits it to just 1st or 2nd and 1 keeps it in 1st.
